Whilst I think everyone here appreciates your work, I can not see how advertising on E-Bay makes you any better? Are you some caped crusader or something? I've seen your auctions and nothing leads me to believe your any better.

Sorry, but the facts speak for themselves...

Is there really such a huge difference between "trading" and selling? The nature of the transaction is the same, just the currency is different.

There is a massive difference. When someone has taken the time to let you have copies of something for a token swap and that person then uses it for commercial gain. It is morally wrong.

Diamonds in the Mine I understand the way you feel about this but are you selling at 99p or is that your starting price and you will then take from the highest bidder. I can understand if you are doing a "buy it now" at 99p that would certainly discourage those out for a quick buck but if you are putting it on at 99p in a rising auction then it is pot calling kettle. I also appreciate your work but it is selling out.

Well, so far you appear to be making £45 from selling pirate DVDs.

So, you tell me...

So, the experiment made you £65 from the auctions.

Still can't see your point.

Well, Ebay and Nochex (like Paypal) are both a waste of time in many ways. I got ripped off buying web design software from somebody on Ebay (£200 plus) and paid through Nochex to receive a CD-R. Neither were interested, in fact neither were Macromedia (the creators of the original software), and I got nothing back. Nochex had the guy's credit card details and address so he could receive money so how they can turn a blind eye to fraud is beyond me. Disgusting.

As for the bootleg sellers, I can understand why they do it - i.e. if people are stupid enough to pay for the recordings, why not supply them? Not that it detracts from the annoyance you must feel when you CREATED the damned thing and only intended it to be given away.

What about this then...create an Ebay account, offering the same items for sale as a Buy It Now of £0.01 with a note saying 'blank CD-Rs must be provided and sufficient cost for postage'? Then you put these people out of business and help the trading continue? Just a thought...

Greenfeld 69,

IMO, that sounds like a good plan. I'm not involved in the trading/selling but I can understand the frustration of those that are. I don't like to see people get ripped for large sums of money (any sum of money) a lot of us just can't afford it. To me it sounds like the start of something that might work. It would certainly make stuff available to those of us that want something along the lines of souveniers as opposed to serious "I'll pay any amount for anything" buying.

A lot of people don't have anything other than 'official' LC items, have never seen him in concert, and this sounds like a fair way to let people get some material into their collections.

I'm sure there will be those who disagree.

Linda.

Linda, thanks for the support!

Alternatively set up a trade board within these forums?

Btw, UK Ebay they aren't going for much at all...must be USA/Canada where people pay a lot is it?

It might be the same difference as between Love and prostitution. Same transaction, different currency...

Thats it!

"Trading" ("Sharing" is the more apropriate term!) is a thing of mutual agreement; selling the same recording is prostitution.

Thank you for reinforcing my point.

Hi there everyone !

I've 'discovered' this forum only a few days ago and have since then been reading the forum with lots of interest and especcially the discussions about eBay and trading caught my eye.....

I've always bought the official Leonard Cohen music in the stores as soon as they came out.......considering my age (35) that's not entirely true but let's say i've caught up with his music as soon as i could.....

Over the years i picked up some bootleg-cd's in some marketplaces and everytime that happened (only a few times because you don't find that many in The Netherlands) I came home happy as a child, convinced that i was one of the few lucky ones owning this particular Leonard Cohen item..

About 6 months ago i started to surf the internet to see what there was to find about Leonard Cohen and i discovered there were a lot of Leonard Cohen concert-cd's (and other items as well) being sold on eBay.
As a result i started buying some, always happy when they came through the mail, playing my new priceless cd in the stereo all night long....

I never really felt 'robbed' or 'prostituted' taking part in this transactions.I only wondered how the sellers came had laid hands on 'their' products....

That's a lot clearer to me now.....

The thing is that you can only trade if you've got something to trade....
Otherwise you have to depend on the kindness of people to give you their time and effort to make your collection a bit bigger.
Although i have a lot more Leonard Cohen in my collection now, probably most people here have more and still i won't have a lot to trade.....
I think there will always be a market for this kind of work....

In the future i will try to get my collection bigger through this site and others (i also discovered the FTP !).

As for diamondsinthemine; "Keep up the good work!". God knows you can get 5,6,7 times the amount on eBay for every item you 'trade' through your site and i'm sure you've made a lot of people happy with reasonable trading.......

About eBay; Greenfeld and Linda have a point but it's gonna take someone a lot of time and effort to start an action like this......

Greetings Paul................

Well, I have stuff to trade or pass on for CD-Rs. Get in touch if you want any. I got stuff from kind people so might as well help others.

That was mentioned many times. I thought about page on site (I desciber the idea somewhere here) but the section on fourm is the easiest  Let's ask Jarkko :!:
