Wind and Rain

Post by simonelli »

This is bit embarrassing, but it means well. I'd value your comments:

Wind & Rain

I’ve been travelling for a long time-
I am weary and I’m older.
How much further can I carry
This heavy weight upon my shoulder?

I asked this question of a stranger
Who had been here so long before
And she offered no real comfort
As she asked me, ‘Can you carry more?’

(Ch:) I wanted to fly from the rain and wind
But I had to stay on Earth
Where wars are fought and men are pinned
By the deaths that follow birth.

I went down to the old Café
Where the people do their drinking.
I wondered if they found the way
To be happy without thinking.

Ah, when you’re young, are you stronger?
Are you flowing? Do you feel less pain?
As you grow, does your freedom go?
Do you feel the wind and the lashing rain?

(Ch:) I wanted to fly from the rain and wind
But I had to stay on Earth
Where wars are fought and men are pinned
By the deaths that follow birth.

That heavy weight, it can crush you,
Turn you inwards and make you blind.
You don’t notice the others with you,
Far ahead or left behind.

If we learn to share the burden
We can reach the calmer place.
Turn no blind eye to the helpless
And join the crowd in the Café.

(Ch:) I wanted to fly from the rain and wind
But I had to stay on Earth
Where wars are fought and men are pinned
By the deaths that follow birth.

The stranger came and she told me:
‘You’re not just flesh, nor just bone.
What’s inside cannot be eroded.
Knowing this, you’re never alone.’

I sing this for the unrewarded,
The frustrated and dispossessed.
For the lonely and the wandering
And for those who feel unblessed.

(Ch:) I wanted to fly from the rain and wind
But I had to stay on Earth
Where wars are fought and men are pinned
By the deaths that follow birth.

I actually sang it in public once and I can't SING! One person came up and said 'You were very brave'! and another said 'I liked the WORDS'!!! Singing career begun and finished on the same night. Ah well!

Hi Simonelli ~

I like the words, too... and, of course, can't comment on the singing. Don't forget there's always YouTube for round two ;-) . It seems kind of a "Please Don't Pass Me By" concept and I love that song.

Hi Simonelli,

I'd love to hear this song, sung.
asked this question of a stranger
Who had been here so long before
And she offered no real comfort
As she asked me, ‘Can you carry more?’
For me this verse is my favourite, it creates a very strong image for me.
Thank you for posting your song! I hope to read more or better yet listen to one on You Tube as Elizabeth suggested :D

Gosh! Thank you for you for your kind comments.

I always thought the opening line about having travelled a long time was so hackneyed that it should be changed, but perhaps it's the best way to lead into the main message.

Ha! HA! Youtube! Me! With this song!!!

The only things on Youtube with me are here (comedy) and here (caricaturing)

I think a lot of the poetry I've seen here is pretty impressive, too.

Do you sing as well?

Hello Simonelli

I really liked your poem
I will read it many times
It inspired me to write my own
as we are kindred kinds

Here goes:

Yesterday I wrote this
but couldn't find my way
(Back to your thread
Until today

(How will I ever get enlightened!!!?)

Here goes again:

The Brave Pretender

Thank you for your poem
And your brave song sung
I can hear it clearly
Sounds like nectar from your tongue

I am also a “Great Pretender”
Greatly relieved
Through “special dispensation”
From Lovely Lama Leonard
(like from the pope)
through his brutal honest humility
To be one too.
Pretend monk, pretend poet,
Pretend singer, pretend picker
Pretend person (but that's so easy!)

I am a mountain monk
with a secret guitar
stashed in my cave
I am not enlightened yet
But Lama Leonard is liberating me

Ask Jack (lazariuk) for advice about dancing
I think it applies to singing too
And it works!
(He is a genius)
Although I am sometimes confused about
How he would like this communicated to him
Or how I should communicate this to him
And what it actually is
It's a god topic (mis-spelled, but left that way intentionally!)

I think maybe we should organize a concert
“Invitation Only”
for those like you and me
who have NO
confidence in their ability
to sing, or play
we could perform and clap
and ask for encores too
we would feel very special then
unique and honored, for a change
maybe we would even start to sound ok??
like genius Jack suggests
