Interesting article on Woody Guthrie -On the trail of Bob Dylan's ultimate hero in Dec Mojo and a great quote from John Steinbeck about Woody ,Tom Jode and The Grapes of Wrath. Steinbeck says " That fuckin' little bastard ! in 17 verses he got the entire story of a thing that took two years to write "

...David M Lutken is an American actor and writer. He is the co-writer (with Nick Corley) and the star of a new musical, Woody Sez, about Woody Guthrie, who according to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was "the original folk hero; a man who, in the Thirties and Forties, transformed the folk ballad into a vehicle for social protest and observation, and paved the way for the likes of Bob Dylan". 'Woody Sez - the Life and Music of Woody Guthrie' is at the Arts Theatre, London.//

"There is nothing sweet about Woody, and there is nothing sweet about the songs he sings. But there is something more important for those willing to listen.

...Woody Guthrie 's blend of folk and protest to benefit homeless charity - Woody Sez for C4WS at St Pancras Old Church

Published: 17 March 2011

WOODY Guthrie’s potent blend of folk and protest became the soundtrack for the American Depression in the 1930s. He has inspired generations ever since – without Woody, there’d have been no Dylan.

And his protest music has resonance today: in a new show, called Woody Sez, playing at the Arts Cafe, Great Newport Street, Covent Garden, performers use 25 of his tunes to illustrate the modern mess we find ourselves in. On Sunday, at a special performance at St Pancras Old Church, the actors/ musicians are giving up their day off to raise money for Camden homeless charity, C4WS - http://www.coldweathershelter.org - ...
