The Forum software has been updated!
If you have made this far you are back on the old forum with a new design.
Rauli has updated the forum software to the new 3rd generation. (My previous account
terminated on May 31 and had to be renewed! This also gave us time to discuss the future
of the Forum on Hydra).
NOTE: the system has sent automatically new passwords to some of the members to the email
address they have in their member profile. Use it to log-in.
After a successful log-in you may change your password any time to the old (or another) one.
Just go to the "User Control Panel" to do it.
This new software offers also new features: you may for instance select a member or several
members whose messages you don't want to see on your screen. How to do it? Go to user
Control Panel and select "friends and foes".
NOTE: IF YOU CANNOT LOG-IN WITH YOUR OLD PASSWORD:
- check your emails to find your new password
- if you haven't got the email (because your email address in your profile is outdated)
CONTACT JARKKO AT ja@nebula.fi
WE WILL SEND YOU A NEW PASSWORD BY EMAIL.
IMPORTANT: please let me know your Forum name if you have to request a new password!!!
ALSO NOTE: the search function is also now OK - Rauli had to re-build the database from the previous software generation

The old forum was much easier to read. This is very hard on the eyes!

I'm sure we will get used to this new layout pretty soon. The new generation of the software also offers us very valuable new features,
easier administration, and much better spam protection.

Re: The Forum software has been updated!
Don't want to moan, but I must say I don't really like the appearance and found the old version easier (I know the new one can do more)
Re: The Forum software has been updated!
I don't know. I recall how we all slammed Jarkko when he turned from old black board to the blue one.
Now, eight hours after the first shock and many erros, I am totally delighted. This is like something totally new. I really like the change. The change is only what's constant:-)

Re: The Forum software has been updated!
I have logged in three times now today on the same computer, every time checking the little box that says, "Log me in automatically..."
So I guess that's not working.
Mostly, I'm just trying to find my way around here. It's not all that different, at least not yet, far as I can tell. It just looks different. I have not yet stumbled upon the whistles nor the bells, but I'm to go scavenging for them now.

And I was just going to protest to Wenslauw when I saw the layout of his forum that this is a rather hard-to-read appearence! I guess now I'll have to shut up.
The layout is simply something that takes getting used with, I guess; but on the other hand, I do have a more bothering problem, the same one that Manna mentions-even though I check in the "remember password" box, it just doesn't remember it (and I just checked, I do have the cookies enabled here).

Re: The Forum software has been updated!
This 3rd generation phpBB board is still a test version - there might be bugs that the programmers will correct when tehy are notified about them. I have checked the forums everal times today and only once had to log-in again. If the problem continues we will contact the phpBB team to ask what they're going to do with it. -- As the administrator I have to add that the new software has almost totally stopped the flow of new spammer members that I have had to delete, one by one. This is a major relief for the moderating team!
Re: The Forum software has been updated!
Hi there
I have signed in about 3 times today and like you guys had to re-enter the details each time - a bit of a nuisance. But this time, it remembered me!!!!!! so maybe it needs the details a certain number of times before it remembers. Tell me again what your name is? What did you say your password was? are you sure?

Jarkko (et al)
The upgrade of the forum software is (IMHO) the greatest thing that has has happened it indicates a medium to long term commitment to keep the best LC message board goig - lets make sure we don't descend to self destruction again!

Re: The Forum software has been updated!
HELP!
I’ve encountered many problems with the new software:
- Having to sign in again each time, as others have said.
- Worse: even when I’m already logged in, I’m asked to log in again every time I click the link line on a “Topic reply notification” email.
- “View new posts” search doesn’t really get all new posts.
Also:
- I couldn’t find a guide to the different graphic signs used (in the old software there was such a guide at the bottom of some pages).
- “Members” function changed drastically, and we’ve lost the option of sorting members by different categories.

Re: The Forum software has been updated!
I think the new layout is good BUT on a number of occasions, having typed a message, and pressed send (this is AFTER logging in) I've been asked to log in again and the message has disappeared. Now I'm highlighting and pressing save on every message - just in case.
Re: The Forum software has been updated!
There seems indeed to be some teething troubles with the 3rd generation. A software update is coming pretty soon and it will probably fix the bugs. There is something wrong with the cookies that are supposed to keep us logged-in, and if you click on a link in one of the messages, the new website will open in the SAME window replacing the forum (while it should open in a new window). We will check the phpBB community forum to find out if a solution has already been found to these problems.
Re: The Forum software has been updated!
I also have the logging-in problem.
Re: The Forum software has been updated!
Looks like the logging-in problem is now solved, thanks to Rauli. Please do tests and give your comments (close the browser and then open it again and come back to the forum; if you had selected bo be kept logged-in constantly, you should be back without another logging-in)
