Other favourite poets.

Post by Andrew McGeever »

This one, like the "favourite other musical artists", could run and run!
Can I kick-off by saying that W.B. Yeats, Federico Garcia Lorca, Robert Frost, John Ashby, Seamus Heany, George Bruce, Norman McCaig and Jim C. Wilson are just some whose works have given me both pleasure and inspiration?

Though far more than simply a poet [not the same as saying that poets are merely so] ~ Rumi ~ perhaps my favourite ghazalist? :)

I don't usually read poetry so don't know if this thread is appropriate.....but one of my prized albums is 'The Vagabond and other Songs' by Welsh classical singer Bryn Terfel. The poems of Shakespeare, Masefield, Butterworth, RL Stevenson, tennyson etc etc set to music by 19th century composers Finzi, Ireland, Vaughan Williams. This album is strongly recommended for both pure poetry and pure vocals... the bass-baritone of Terfel has to be easily the mightiest voice today.....

Kush,
This sounds great. I love opera ~ except for the Wagnerian ones ~ so, even if this isn't operatic in style, the strength and quality of the vocals will still be there from what you've said. Shakespeare sung...sounds great.

Lizzytysh....that album is easily available in the classical section of Borders under vocals. And all the poems are included in the booklet.

Excellent, Kush. Thank you for the lead. One that can be easily followed up on.....at last. :) I really look forward to hearing it.

Tom waits, and that stunning writer, Peter Danielsen, after he has lost weight and gained muscles he seems fit to capture the female hearts of the world once again.
