Poem P:

Old Love Letters

Disinterred from secret places,
A rose, a glove, a ring,
A locket with opposing faces,
A bundle of letters, a twist of string,

Oh, the red rose is dead,
And the white glove torn,
The ring is tarnished,
The locket outworn,

Only the letters are a living thing,
Truth and lies in a twist of string

I really like this one. "Truth and lies in a twist of string": Great description of the reality of old love letters. Congratulations for also being a winner.

Hi~

This (judged 3rd Place) poem has great cadence.

I liked the specific visuals given the reader. The rhymes are simple but don't seem forced or banal and are an integral part of the lilting cadence.

A nicely penned vignette!

Thanks,
Laurie

Opposing faces......truth and lies.

This piece illuminates time and lives. Takes us into and shows what is behind the simple things in life. Wonderful. Thanks.

I also TY and love the last line and the many romantic memories in this effort.

Really nice. I also love the ending I like it when an ending has an effect.

Hot dog! I can't believe it. An honorable mention. I thought it might be too simple. I felt I needed a middle verse to tie it together better but I couldn't come up with anything. So it's a big surprise to me. Thanks for the kind words everybody.

It's more than an honourable mention, Charles 8) . It was selected as one of the top three :D . I was delighted to see yours make it. Not too simple at all... a very strong visual and emotional presentation of reality.

Hi Charles~

Congrats! Nice job.

Henning, who is in charge of the Berlin booklet is still in decision making mode whether or not to print the top 3 or just the First Place winner. So there is a chance yours and Byron's poems (2nd & 3rd places) might make it into the booklet.

I think within a couple of weeks the decision will be made.

regards,
Laurie
