Are Super Villains Afraid of Thunderstorms?
I
Last night a masked bandit knocked
over our organics bin, scattered
wilted lettuce and strawberries
all over the walk, then ran off
with our leftover pizza.
II
Lex Luthor adds dates
to his quinoa salad. Chops
caramelized pecans on a wooden
cutting board. On the counter
is a basket of free-range eggs;
he only uses free-range eggs.
There’s something about being
locked-up that gives a man compassion
for his fellow creatures. (scratch that)
for some of his fellow creatures.
III
“Soft sheets and hard liquor."
Some husbands are easier to please
than others. This one likes to BBQ.
The sky is a clear C-sharp but you can feel
the low pressure of B-flat clouds rolling
towards us. Breath in deep. Indigo air
fills your lungs with the cool of fall,
mixed with leftover wants of summer.
Next door the sound of metal hitting
the bottom of a dry sink -- F-sharp.
Come on, storm. Even the crickets are waiting.
IV
Luthor climbs into bed;
sheets tight, corners folded.
He closes his eyes
and imagines his
Mothers kiss on each lid.
Tomorrow there will be plots
to hash out, tonight he looks for the
memory of lavender scented hair
and the sound of a woman’s
voice that he can’t quite recall
over the sound of thunder.

This is astonishing, bloody marvellous. Thank you for such a delicious piece of writing. C-sharp sky, B-flat clouds - unbelievable!
I thank you Cate for creating such a well thought out delight.

Cate I was trapped in that poem crafted with story and ambiance, as well as I was trapped in your other poem about a postman or a road or the whisper of the sea that can not be hear through a closed window. I wanted to read it again, but 3035 matches discouraged me.
Adam, I read your poetry also, from time to time, but your position is so high in what looks another dimension to me. Ropedancers and trapeze artists make me feel unasily dizzy, while looking at them, shaping forms in the air with their lives, above, you give me the same feelings.

Thank you for reading Adam, I don't know if you like or ever liked comic books but I've always liked Lex Luthor, he's one of my favourite characters - Superman, on the other hand, has always been just a little to perfect. That guy needs to relax.
Hi T. thank you, I've had Mermaids in a few poems so I looked to see what I had posted here - it was this viewtopic.php?f=11&t=33564&p=325868&hil ... ds#p325868
The postman one is here - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=32623&p=312354&hil ... os#p312354
going back to over posting for this week - I'm really enjoying all of the excitement of his new Album and his new age.

Ah! Thank you, Cate. It was the postman's. Great!
The Mermaids ones may be as good, it is just me : I always have oppressive feelings around deep-under-the-sea atmospheres. The most that I can endure about under water atmosphere is a trout's thought at the surface of icy and pristine water of a small stream under the summer sun. In the mountain.
What do you mean New Age? The music? OK. Well if you want, why not?
But by electronic music I was thinking more about Jean Michel Jarre and Pierre Henry which I was exposed to (maybe that explains a lot of things) at a (relatively) young age.
Psyche Rock does not exactly reach the goal of relaxing - Urban thing that it is.

And I also like some electronic dance music. And some new age too, but just a few, when they reach their goal.

T - you say my poetry is in another dimension. that is exactly where it should be! you ever heard of Imagine by Lennon? or All You Need Is Love? do you think those songs are in today's dimension? those songs are hope, those songs challenge a fucked up world to change. that's all i'm tryin' to do.
C - i hated Lex Luthor. but i quite liked Jean Michel Jarre!

I am a very girl of the Earth, you know, so the depth of the abyssal water pits of Cate's Mermaids and the etheric air in the heights where you stand, Boss, I can not pace with ease. If I would find a defficiency of some sort, in all this, it would be in my human finitude, not in your poetry, both of you.
May you continue to be prolific. (and live long and prosper)
I like the ocean and the sky when I can befriend them both feet well grounded on the earth. You see...
Postman. This is about to be a mythical figure very soon. They are about to cut the door-to-door service around here.

The poem that I like is this one exactly. It is the postman's story, not the story about the postman. I can be confusing.
There is a man who lives beside the ocean,
postby Cate on Sat Mar 02, 2013 11:49 am
he knows nothing of Mermaids
or their sister’s song; believes
that the salt of the ocean is a result
. . . . . . . . . of mineral deposits.
He spends his days delivering boxes
for pay. Up and down wriggly roads
in a blue Miata, stuffed with packages.
. . . . . . . . . Sometimes people give
him tea, talk with him about the weather
or the neighbor who never says hello.
Some nights he wakes, thinks that he can
hear his name in the whisper of the shoal.
In these dark moments, he locks shut
the window and falls back to sleep,
safe in his bed.

Re: Are Super Villains Afraid of Thunderstorms?
I like that Lex Luther's superpower is his brain. I also like that despite being a super genius, he's quite obviously missing something 'human'.
They're threatening to cut door to door service here as well Tchocolati, I guess it's nation wide. Fine for me, but I don't want to see my older neighbors shuffling out onto ice covered walks to try and get their Canadian Tire bills.
by 'his new age', I just meant 80, his age changing on his birthday but I like your direction better. Cool music.

Re: Are Super Villains Afraid of Thunderstorms?
Luthor was lacking something human - that's what gave me the shits about him. Superman, although not human, had a sense of honour and justice. He was of a higher ilk, the sort of level anyone on a spiritual quest aims for. Luthor didn't care for the sanctity of human life. I know we can all be nasty, that is part of being human. But Superman exemplified something that made all people respect him (and it wasn't his strength) - he had integrity. Christ and the Buddha had this. I believe they suffered a great deal to get there. Luthor was a guy who looked for easy money. He didn't suffer. He was a greedy, snide mug who only cared about himself. To me, being human is to live out your fullest potential for good. I realise there are elements of us that are bad, even evil, but Schopenhauer said that all we can do is lean or bend toward the light/good. You know Luthor may have been intelligent, a brain, but he wasn't compassionate. Superman was - that is the difference.
All that being said, my favourite superhero was Aquaman.
Two more things a) Cate, have you tried to publish your work? and b) I apologise Tchoc if this piece of writing made you dizzy.

Re: Are Super Villains Afraid of Thunderstorms?
I don't know who those super guys Luthor and Aquaman are. But the poem is so very beautiful.
After having quit the forum, I realized that the other poem was about the death of a beloved - must also be a real important event in your life Cate. Probably about a father. I felt bad not to have been more attentive and sensitive about that "detail", shall it be the case. You don't have to tell me everything. Or anything. Feel free. But accept my condolences if it is the case.
Boss, many super heros are another version of Jesus, the Savior of Humanity, a living god, with superpowers, but also as human as human beings can be. This is why Jesus can said : what I am doing, you can do also. I guess he meant that we are designed to evolve the way he was. This is what I believe anyway.
I never have the proof of the life of Jesus anywhere. But I never saw my postman too, and if something is certain, it is that I have not the first clue about him. Nevertheless, my mail is delivered in my mailbox. I may not believe in my postman, but I do believe that my mail is delivered. I have the faith in this regard. I also have faith that when the medium will change form, as live is dancing its dance of creation and destruction and creation, I will still receive my messages.
You see, I can feel dizzy without help.
To begin with. Second. I apologize if I wrote something that leads you to think that you are annoying me in a way or another, because this is not the reality. You may be a dreamer, Boss, but you are not the only one!!
Cate, the old people around here will continue to have their mail delivered if they provide a doctor form in regard of health conditions that would make them unable to go to the post office.

Re: Are Super Villains Afraid of Thunderstorms?
Stunning! I read about two lines and realized that I love your writing style. The entire piece captivated me, the harmony of the sky, and your voice, "come on, storm." Did you ever read a work or hear a song and it gives you that "I should have wrote that" feeling? It gave me that. (If you don't know the feeling, it's not a hostile jealous possessiveness as it sounds. It's a very high compliment.)
Re: Are Super Villains Afraid of Thunderstorms?
I hope it's not a hostile/jealous/possessive thing because I often feel like that .. I mean, I often have the feeling of 'I should have wrote that'. It is indeed a high compliment - thank you for your kind words.

I'm quite happy to be wowed by others. I'm more than happy to say the truth. No bad feelings. Just good feelings. Am I strange? I mean I am so strange? Yes? No? In any case, thanks to have put this on the top of pile again, so that I can read about the quiet guy peom again! (two times.)
