The album is great, but amazingly, his albums get better with the years.

Happy birthday "Songs of..."

On Xmas day I listened to "Dear Heather", "Songs of", "Songs of Love and Hate", "Songs from a room", "New Skin...", "Recent Songs", and then to "Dear Heather" again.
They all have their own charm. For me the best LC album always is the one I'm just listening to.

Dear Tom,
My copy of "The Songs of Leonard Cohen" is dated 1967, the year it was released (at least in Britain). I had always assumed its British release was official.
All the best to you and your fellow Croat Cohenites for 2005.
Andrew.

Andrew, I believe we discussed this many times. The album is mostly dated January 1968 in many books, but it was released on December 27 1967 (I got that now on CanEHdian Music site, the exact date), or simply "Christmas 1967" as release date. I guess 4 days don't make a difference.
Thanks for wishes; to you also:) Just yesterday somebody was telling me about the visit to Ireland.

I go with tom.d.stiller ~ however, there's no poll choice for that.

I put the poll only as a kind of refreshment :D I adore the first album, but every one is great when I'm listening to it so the institution of Leonard Cohen's best album is always fluctuating. 8)

I agree, Tom. The first album always brings back my initial reactions to this whole, new world that Leonard brought me.

What visit to Ireland? Is Leonard going to be performing in Ireland?
Will he ever perform live again, I'm only 20 so haven't had a chance to see him live in my short span of life so far. I live in Ireland so that would be very cool! I've only been listening to him for about 2 years now, was introduced with "The best of" (1975 album) and listened to that and then a few months ago I got The Essential and since then I have managed to get all the official albums (with exceptions of "more best of", "cohen live" and "live songs") I have every other one mentioned here. What a great set of albums to finally have!

My friend was telling me about his visit to Ireland, his own visit to Ireland. That was intended for Andrew:) Sorry! But let's hope LC will hit the road some day soon.

In reality, Tom, I feel that should be perhaps the first on the list of FAQs, with the 'definitive' answer as far as we know it ~ so new people don't keep hoping in vain.
