Whats going on Leonard, are you sleeping
I dont mean to rush you....well actually I do...when is new material comming on? We The Secret Brotherhood of Committed Leonard Cohen Addicts, demand our regularly fix.
Dont regard this as threat, but we have ways of making you sing. It can be done the soft way, or we can put you under modest pressure.
On behalf of the brothers

father cohen loves us all.... maybe thats it...
other than that, I think that his style has changed profoundly in time... if you compare suzanne or sisters of mercy to alexandra leaving or a thousand kisses deep it becomes crystal clear... or do you like the person LC now better than his younger model ?!
until now I like every style he plays in... lets hope it stays that way
take care

Hi Arno ~
I have the strong sense that the disgruntled amongst us are going to be very pleased.
Hi Catherine ~
Watching or listening to Leonard at any juncture is equally satisfying for me. However, I do feel I know what you're talking about. Leonard, now that he's older, seems at peace with himself and the world. With that, I am happy for him. He Came So Far for Peace and Beauty.

For myself... I really miss songs like Dress rehearsal rags and stuff like There is a war....Father Cohen is cool...but not as much as the Lost Canadian who sang completly overthrown at the Festival of Wight.
And it is not a question of era. I miss the smoky life.

I feel a little different, i like "i tried to leave you" it was done in 1978, the lyrics are like a warm arm around of me, maybe because it reflects my current stat, who knows if i don't, however first listenning to that song didn't give me much satisfaction, when i found the live version ten years later, on the 1988 live in germany (cd3, song 4) i was stuned.
So his old songs, played after i guess are my favorit maybe just his live material are
!
Ow dear i become a groupy

Catherine~ I'm with you. I like the Old Leonard much better, the last 10 songs, I love so much every one of them, except may be ~the land of plenty~ but that also depends on the day~ some days I can't stand it, some days I'm wondering about the the same song. I like Leonard's now voice
He's calm and wise and loving and sad, he is so dear and close, like a man you have loved all your life and you know him so well, you know his strength and weakness, and he's just opening up to you~ and you are so happy and proud of it~ because he trusts you, anyway, I could be wrong, this is just my feeling about it

I also like “the old Cohen” better. Don’t know, maybe simply because I've met old Cohen before encountering young Cohen (
) and was impressed deeply just by the former. But I agree, Elizabeth, his later works seem to be written by someone who achieved inner peace and harmony – perhaps, that’s what makes those songs so magnetic.
Bee, I love 10 New Songs, too. I’d say that’s my favourite album. And even if the only songs worthy of attention there were 1000 Kisses, Here It Is, and Love Itself it probably still would be my favourite. [Elizabeth, if you remember, some time ago, trying to interpret A Life of Errands, we talked about acceptance. I can say, from my point of view, these songs are something like manifested and vividly present state of acceptance… and real “cure for love”, as well.]

Elton John once said in an interview for his - I believe - 1997 duets album
he couldn´t help laughing when Leonard sang the first line of their duet
"Born to lose", because the voice " that was gravely (?)when he started, had grown even so much deeper over the years".
Besides he said he was and had always been in love with him.
Poor Elton...
But seriously, I think it´s Leonard´s voice that has changed so much as to make the casual listener perceive
a whole different person.
I´m going 2 bed now. It´s 3 in the morning in Germany. Goodnight you beautiful Cohen people.
