Leonard's Lasting Influences

Post by mraynor »

How many people can truly say that a musician and a poet has influenced their life and love of poetry and music for thirty years? Leonard's songs and his gift for illuminating the darkest and most hidden emotions have been a bedrock of stability in my life. His searing yet comforting lyrics accompanying a gentle and compelling voice, particularly in enriching songs such as "Dress Rehearsal Rag" and "Sing Another Song, Boys" are a fleeting example of the the most powerful poet of our times. Thank you, Leonard, for your honest portrayal of the human soul. You are a gift to humanity.
Shalom.
Margie.

Ever since I was 13 I've been listening to Mr. Cohen. Currently I'm 17 and can say that I feel priviledged to know his music will be there all through my life. Its rare to find artists these days that really have something to hold onto. This is why I thank for my father for sharing something so beautiful with me at a young age. Mr. Cohen is still a great inspiration to me in many ways. The only thing that saddens me is I may never get a chance to see him perform live. Yet I still wish him the best in his future projects. God bless him

Well silly me....Welcome to the forum!!! :D

There's nothing to add to that beautiful tribute and thank-you, Margie ~ except that I hope Leonard ends up seeing it :D !

I could select out particular phrasings, but why bother? As a whole, it's solid, meaningful, and true; and I share your feelings about him, with all you've said. The two particular songs you've selected are also simply raw with truth.

Welcome to the Forum :D !

You're very fortunate, Cohen Knight, to have Leonard come into your life at such a young age 8) . The years will show you what I mean :) . Glad to see you willing to come here and hang out with so many beyond your years. There are some close to your age, as well. You'll discover them in time. Meanwhile, let's hear it for your father :D !

i discovered LC only a few months ago but I loved it instantly. I have never heard any other songwriter/singer to have such interesting lyrics. Everything is so perefctly clear but there is always something you can inerpret. Maybe there are artists who can produce lyrics as deep as LC's but to me his style is unique. I love his music but there is one more good thing about him. Without getting to know hism usic i would never had reached this forum. I don't write very often(any more) but I love to come here and read.
So thank you Mr. Cohen very much
