The Energy of Slaves

I can’t choose one poem; I love the perversity of every line from

"Welcome to these lines
There is a war on
But I’ll try to make you comfortable"

to the end.
the art of longing’s over and it’s never coming back

Book: Beautiful Losers, just because so many of the passages soar.

Poem: Most recently, As the Mist Leaves no Scar has come back into first place. But What I'm Doing Here, has been at the top at times. I've not seen that poem mentioned on here before. I love the power of the first lines.

I do not know if the world has lied
I have lied
I do not know if the world has conspired against love
I have conspired against love

On reflection, two other favourite poems are "The Party Then Was Over Too" (which I read at the Lincoln gathering) and the poem about Hydra, Marianne and the child at the end of "Stranger Music".
