scream

Post by jaked »

it's a scream, he said,
it's a scream.
and it was, echoing across the empty prairie
where no one heard it
but him.
no one,
not even the man he shot,
no one
but him

Jesus, Jaked - I screamed when I saw this posting. It echoed through the street and neighbours came to enquire, thinking my screams were of delight - which they were. Nine days past the point of no return, I thought you were lost and gone forever. I thought you were long gone through the valley of darkness at this stage. I thought you were Peter/Cortez let loose. Welcome to the risen Jaked, screaming or not. I need a shot of gin. 'To bee or not to bee' that is the question. How goes the livestock? Nice poem.

Jaked is risen! Let's pass around that bottle!

The ramblers and the rounders oughtta be there
Pass around the bottle and we'll all share
Pharaoh's army got drownded
Oh, Mary, dontcha weep.

I have no idea what your story, real or imagined, is, Jaked... however, still glad to see you amongst us :D . Leave it to you to be so expressive, Damellon :D .

Your poem seems somewhere between Jaked, Poe, and Kafka.

Personally, I feel lucky that this wasn't an entry in the recent Poetry Competition.

Me knowing that song has nothing to do with BS, nor Pete for that matter. I love Bruce's take, but the guy didn't do this verse, which wasn't made up by me! I think my band may have even recorded it (~13 years ago), but it didn't make our final cut. Also, Pete may have recorded/performed it, but I'm 99% sure he didn't write it. I think the dinosaurs sang this one. Do you know Alan Lomax? There's a collection of Lomax recordings where, what I think they did was use the vocals of the old recordings and add modern music. There's what I think is a version of this song on that called Pharaoh that is just gorgeous.

Oh, for Pete's sake! Sorry for all that horribly convoluted grammar. If you'd like a translation, let me know.

Jaked, you don't need Michaeled to defended you.

There's a stuffed called "tumble weed" that tumbles across the drier prairies,
and all you need to do is catch one and put it on your head.

It's what Phil Spectored did. And it baffled, and then hunged, the juryed.
(Because any assertion, whatsoever, about him after that
had to be considered reasonably doubtful. (I guess.))

~~

The image below says
"Choral arrangement by Waldemar Hille",

(and
"Use the same music for verse and chorus"
--which is, i think, the main characteristic of the song
as most people know it today (--it's what gives it
its maniacal drive.) So Hille might be thought of
as the main author, in that sense)

Image

The image is from "The People's Song Book", 1948,
edited by Hille, forewarded by Alan Lomax.

In the liner notes to his "Greatest Hits"
Leonard Cohen said this:
...
We were working at a camp in Ste Margeite, Quebec.
We sang together every morning, going through
"the People's Song Book" from cover to cover.
I developed the curious notion that the Nazis
were overthrown by music.
So, LC has covered "Oh Mary, don't you weep".
(as well as all the other songs in the book, "cover to cover").

I don't know what it means to do a Cortez on me. Will I like it? Will it involve a Sugar Baby?

Yes, I had a band. Yes, I have an album. This joke doesn't really work written, but I'll do it anyway:
It's a million seller...............................there's a million of 'em in my cellar.

Anyone who wants the album - PM me your address and I'll get them out as soon as I can.

Manna - 'do a Cortez on you' - see my postings at News/New book about LC to be published in Sweden, where I take Cortez to task for his excessive promotion of his book. You, on the other hand are offering your CD as a gift, I assume? Are you sure you can handle the volume of requests which you will receive for this CD now that you're famous? To keep the numbers manageable maybe you should make it clear that your photo is not on the sleeve.

yes, or a trade if anyone wants to...

Well, but my photo is on the sleeve. It's one where I am right next to my husband, who wasn't my husband at the time.
I just checked, but it looks like our old website has been dismantled. boohoo.

hold on, this makes no sense at all. one minute he's not your husband, the next minute he is?

why do you wear your photo on your sleeve?

do you think he was truly attracted to you or just your photograph on the sleeve which is "the one ..right next to" him.
If you had turned around so the other sleeve was next to him (presumably without a photo) would he still have been attracted to you, (no predictable photo "jokes" in response please, they are all too boring, yes you, I mean YOU, no f'ing "negative" puns etc).

now, back to your husband... would he then have seen you at all from that position

this really is a mystery and you have done nothing to clear it up.

Shame on you, the world waits and all you do is fiddle (or pluck)

all she does is fiddle and pluck
fiddle and pluck
fiddle and pluck
