I am truly a sporatic poster here, but I have always found it a great way to check on old friends and catch up on what is happening with people I haven't met yet. I do agree with Kush about the over posting, it does get annoying, but to attribute the disunity to only one thing is making it too simple. We all need to remember that this forum is not Usenet, we are effectivaly in someone's livingroom and subject to their rules. If you want a free-for-all the newsgroup still exists and the rules are fewer, or non-existant.
While it is sad when the disunity of a few punishes the rest, it has ever been such. After all, we are not living in the "Garden" do to the actions of two people. The saddest thing is that someone who has worked so very hard on our behalf, as well as Leonard Cohen's, is being so ill treated.
So Jarkko, my friend, it is after all your call. I will miss the forum. I have been a member since it was in it's black period and all the drama was reserved for the newsgroup. One has to wonder if progress is really for the better. Thank you for all you do.

I am a new member, my first forum, who has been so impressed by the mature and knowledgeable community I found here. An added bonus considering they all shared one of my passions.
The contribution Jarkko, Tom, Tim and Dick make here is immediately obvious and greatly appreciated by me. I could ignore the negative stuff knowing they were intervening when neccesary and I fully supported everything they did do and admired the patience with which they did it.
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you, especially to Jarkko.

One further thought that struck me over night - there seems to be a pod (may not be the right word) of posters who enjoy the cut & thrust of the occasional squabble but we're not hearing from them.
And,in truth,I sometimes enjoy sitting back and resading that cut and thrust, as I suspect do others.
One question Jarkko - would you mind explaining more fully (without naming names) why exactly you feel the time is right to close the forum? That's a genuine question.
If people wish to savage each other (within legal bounds) my reaction - let them!

Wow
I have been reading the forum for many years. I started on the other one, which i believe correctly was, leonardcohen.com I posted as worrdman back then. Then I watched as everyone moved from there to here.
I dont' know what's going on. I only read snippets here and there, as it would take hours I would imagine to go through every thread, and every post. If the forum is closed I am sure Cohen listeners will migrate to other Cohen threads. I do understand why this site is so popular. You can find all sorts of great information here, where elsewhere would be hard to find.
Because of this site, i was able to locate many rare Cohen recordings, and because of this site, found out about the reissues otherwise I would have never known about.
To the best of my recollection, there has never been any drama on this forum or the other that would cause a decision to be made to close it down. Sad to see it happen if it does.
In another post I suggested doing a radio show in honor of Leonard Cohen. As I own and operate boogiestreetradio.com Jarkko was kind enough to let me post the announcement. I had asked him before hand. Only one person responded to that post. No feedback was given by anyone. Perhaps it was/is a busy time on the forum as that poster suggested. But I thought, is this due to drama? I may be way off, I don't know. But I thought how great all us Cohen listeners can come together on a selected night and listen to some great tracks, interviews and rareities spanning his 40 year career.
Cohen has impacted my life as I am sure he has yours as well. No other artist or writer has had such affect on me as he has. I even went as far as to attempt to get an interview with Leonard as I know he rarely grants them. This I thought would be great. This I thought the forum members would enjoy, as would any other listener that happened to tune in as well. I thought about this for awhile, I still am attempting to get that interview. The worse they can tell me is no.
As I have read, Leonard does visit here on occasion. I would like to invite him to tune in in his honor when a date and time has been set for this radio show. A longshot probably, but never hurts to ask.
Sorry for the long post. lol. But Jarkko whatever decision you make it is your call. I just thank you for your hard work and time you have put into this site. Never take anything for granted folks.. Could be gone in a blink of an eye...

Dear Jarkko,
I respect that you will make what you feel is the right decision here. There has been some interesting discussion on the forum, and on one level I am sorry that I have not contributed more myself. This is mainly because Leonard's work is so important to me, that I've avoided overkill and trivilisation, and also thought it healthy to give it a good rest at times.
One thing I have to say is that I feel the newcomer who criticised "sel-promotion" via numerous links etc. had every right to do so. As it internet forum, no-one owns the board. I should also say that Lizzy has been a warm and welcoming presence, here. I guess there are other options. One thing you could do is limit the board exclusively to discussions of Leonard's work, but I appreciate that it might be too time cosuming for you to continues monitoring this. Other options for forum possibilities may also present themselves.
With all best wishes and thanks, John E

That is a fact. One little flower amongst the garbage and the seaweed. She and Jarkko are the only people here who's contact I am going to miss after the chain has been pulled on this internet war-zone and mercifully obliterated from the map. Like a turd upon the river, a moment floating - then gone forever (apologies to Blake). Evil people you are.

Geoffrey if I may say that is a tad over-reactive.

Paula - I agree...Geoffrey's message does seem to be an over-reaction.
Geoffrey - Thank you for quoting me re: Lizzy (sorry about other typos).
I guess that I have been lucky in that I have found some interesting stuff here in the times that I have tuned into the site. I have seen similar problems occur on other sites however, where abuse by a few people often ruin things for everyone else. Fortunately such occurences are usually only temporary outbursts, before some sort of equlibrium returns.
Love to all, John E
