I would like some help with an experiment

Post by lazariuk »

In the song Morning Glory
there are the words
Are we moving towards some transcendental moment? That’s right. That’s it. Do you think you’ll be able to pull it off? Yes. Do you think you can pull it off? Yes, it might happen. I’m all ears. I’m all ears. Oh the morning glory!
I have an interest in something about the future and ears.
I need a little help with an experiment.
Here is what I would like you to do.
Imagine that you can, if you try really hard, hear the future if you turned an ear toward it and that it was right in front of you.
Do it now. Then after you do read the rest.

I would like to know what ear you used when you turned your ear to hear the future. The right or the left. PLease PM me your answer as I don't want it to influence anyone else . When I get a good sampling of people then I will tell the results.

Please do this. It will take just a second or two and it won't hurt.

Thanks for the attention you have given this.

Jack

Interesting & Done.

At this point, there are 11 views of this... but only I have answered that I've done it. I thought you wanted us to at least let you know we'd done it... should we be PMing you now with the results of L or R and anything else that occurred? Or, do you want all that info here at the appointed time?

Thanks for doing it. It never occured to me that people could PM me their results. That is a good idea. I will change my orginal request.

I got ten responses to my experiment.
6 went with the left
4 went with the right
I went with the right so that makes 5 right 6 left.

The reason I asked is that I was listening to an Internet radio show and the person was trying to make the point that one side of the brain deals with the future and the other side the past. He said " try this" and asked what I asked you and I turned my ear to the right and then he said " I bet you turned your ear to the right".

The subsequent theory was certainly interesting but I did want to test some of it for myself and so I did my own experiment and so I am now a little wiser. If everyone answered the same ear there would probably be an interest in having a discussion about this. As it is, likely there will be little interest.

Which ear you choose probably does have some significance but I for one don't have a clue where to look for it.

You could start by sharing with us what the person on the Internet radio show said regarding which was which for "one side of the brain deals with the future and the other side the past."

I would have thought it was something to do with being right handed or left handed. I know you automatically pay more attention to the person standing on your right I am not sure if that applies to left handed people.

Morning Glory has a certain conatation in England I don't know if it does elsewhere but the gist of the words would suggest it does.

Well, I guess we could draw our own conclusions with Leonard's lyric couldn't we? He's speaking in terms of the future and instinctively uses the word right... when he might have found a different word to express the idea of "correct."

That's something interesting I've never heard. I wonder if it is related to our own right- or left-handedness.

That is very interesting Lizzy. I never noticed that. The theory is that the future gets processed in the right side of the brain and so you would use your right ear to listen for it. The past would get processed on the left side.

That did get me thinking. What if someone feels like they are backing into the future? Then they would put their left ear forward so that the right would face behind them.

I wonder if there is anyone other than us who are experimenting with this theory? Maybe we can expand the experiment further and ask others to do it. It would be interesting to know if there could be a simple test that someone could do to determine if they feel that they are facing or backing into their future.

The radio show that I was listening to was dealing in a straight forward way with the fact that we all go toward a process called death and so probably everyone listening to the show were the kind of people who were facing their future, at least for the time they were listening to the program and so maybe that is why the person talking about it said "I would be willing to bet that you used your right ear" He also said that he has never taken a poll and so that is what gave me the idea of doing so.

BTW I have no intention of saying who answered what answer other than I have already given my answer.

If this were correct [and who's to say it's not... ], there was a time when I very likely would have turned my left ear; whereas, this time, I turned my right.

I used to have a real-life photograph hanging on my wall and beneath it, I had written my own phrase, "To live in the past is to live in lonely silence" ~ yet, I continued to live there. I most certainly reluctantly backed my way into the future, as I looked toward the past for my feelings of contentment.
He also said that he has never taken a poll and so that is what gave me the idea of doing so.
Are you going to contact them with your results, after you've polled more people? I think I'll try my own, straw poll.

I don't know. I'll tell you after I find out if I do.

I'm joking of course. I have already taken steps to contact and do plan on telling the results of my experiment.

I'll be curious to see the results of your straw poll.

Ha. I've just noticed your own wording, when "immediately" would have worked just as well  . Such pawns we are to this world of words, in expression of concepts and ideas. Now... I'm wondering if we should control for the variable of subliminal suggestion/seduction.

When I casually conduct my poll, I will choose my words veeeeeery carefully  .

That is one of the reasons we need one another so much.
