Oddly enough that's what I called my compilation that I downloaded from WINMX, and the cd I ended up with looked better than the one they have for sale. I saw them do Santa Maria on the tv and I was, as they say, just blown away!

We've just watched Gloria Gaynor on Parkinson singing 'I Will Survive' and WOW, WOW, WOW. What a real pleasure.

I particularly like Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon solo and Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam.

I was pleased to see that tonyo enjoys Jan Garbarek. I heard him with the Hilliard Ensemble at a performance in Chester Cathedral last year. The atmosphere was incredible for the audience, because the whole of the evening's performance was carried out by the singers as they slowly walked around the whole of the Cathedral's floor space. The cathedral is hundreds of years old and was built for the enjoyment of choristers and acoustic benefits of the congregations. Needless to say, the evening was stunning and the time flashed past. I can still hear the haunting tones of voice and saxaphone in my head as I write this posting to you.
My wife had already seen Jan Garbarek in Liverpool at a concert there a couple of years ago, with his usual jazz group. She said he was 'unique' and I would be amazed at the beauty of his music. She was right. I had an unforgetable evening of beautiful music in my local cathedral.

Dear tom.d. stiller,
I read your list of "favourite artists" , and trawled back to July 17th, 2002, when I posted my list of "favourite artists": there are five we have both quoted:
Jacques Brel
Georges Brassens
Neil Young
Bob Dylan
Van Morrison.

I find this surprising, and warming....mind you, we both mentioned more, all of which I accept. Sometime you must post me YOUR favourite songs from the above five, and in return, I'll post you mine ( but give me some time first :D )
As aye,
Andrew

Dear Andrew

I fully agree :!: with the "warming", but since we just had found out we once frequented the same pubs, it's not that surprising anymore. "Same malt - same music" could be a good proverb!

Let's consider the exchange of favorite songs as a project for the future. What's favorite and what is not depends, of course, on the mood we're in, so we should get drunk using the same quantity of the same malt to get valid results... :D

Were this in another thread, I'd just say "Aye Cuz'", but here...

As aye
Tom

Many I would like to post as those I hold in high regard have already been mentioned but I will repeat a few.
PINK FLOYD- David Gilmore, Roger Waters.
Van Morrison, Luka Bloom and Paul Brady from Ireland.
Mark Knopfler, John Martyn, Eric Clapton, Don Henley, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Carol King
From the land of Oz- PAUL KELLY, James Reyne, Midnight Oil and Neil Finn(Crowded House), Wendy Matthews
In the orchestral realm;- Vaughn Williams, Gerald Finzi, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, Frederick Delius and of course the great decomposing composer, Johann Sebastian Bach.

Happy Listening,

:D Better write something as Lizzy thinks I've disappeared off the face of the earth. TomdStiller? Kevin Coyne eh; great. I was a college dj for a couple of years in the early seventies and we had the bright idea of writing off to record companies to tell them that we ran a disco in this vast college. we got a lot of records in return but they were all crap ie the Rubbettes...then one morning our first lp arrived and it was Blame it on the night by kevin Coyne. Amazing stuff. Never played it at the disco because it just wasn't that type of music. I emailed kevin as to why it wasn't available on cd and a member of his family emailed me back to say that they would love to have it out but Virgin records won't release it. shame.
I also interviewed Bob Marley while I was editor of the college paper. And he let us record the concert. I've lost the tape. I remember talking to the mixing guy and he told me that he'd been offered to tour America with them but, and I quote he said 'I'm not going to as they aren't going anywhere'.

Glyn? I first heard one of Kevin's records in the late 70s, when Alan Bangs played on his "Night Flight" (BFBS) from "Beautiful Extremes". I think it was "Roses in your room"... I didn't exactly follow up his career, since the stuff he recorded was hard to find, and most people I meet still tend to ask "Kevin who? Coin?"...
"Blame it on the night" - as far as I know, Virgin rereleased it on CD in 1991, but this one is as hard to find as the vinyl promo... (do you still have that one?)
Before I forget it: Kevin's on tour in England in June (Concerts in Cheltenham & London) : http://www.kevincoyne.de/News.htm
