Isobel Campbell&Mark Lanegan: Ballad of the Broken Sea

Post by kleinschmidt »

The new collaboration between Mark Lanegan (fomer Screeming trees) and Isobel Campbell (former Belle and sebastian) will match your taste (i'm sure) if you like Leonard cohen. It's called Ballad of the Broken seas, and it is clear that Lanegan is a huge Cohen fan. The track "Deus Ibi Est" sounds a lot like Leonard's own "Teachers".

for more info and song visit: http://www.isobelcampbell.com/ and go to the main page.

It's good i tell ya

Hi Kleinschmidt ~

I wish I could go see Isobel perform. I've listened to the 5 snippets of songs, but couldn't get to the most recent ones offered there.

This is not the same Isobel who used to visit here, is it!?!

I like her voice and style very much. Very waiflike and meaningful. I hope Lightning or some other New Yorkers will go see her when she performs there ~ at Joe's Pub[?], as I'm recalling.

I am still looking for thtis CD in stores here. Most reviews are comparing Lanegan-Isobel duets to Nick Cave-Kylie Minogue, and of course, before all, Leonard Cohen and his way of singing along with Jennifer Warnes.

Hear you can listen to the two tracks "the false husband" and "Ramblin' man": http://www.dr.dk/musik/rock/anbefalinge ... anegan.asp

It's in danish, but it should be easy to work out.

I don't know if Isobel used to visit this page. Maybe :D

And Tom, you should order it from Djangos.com, only 11.68. They have everything.

Since I'm hyping leonard cohenish material you should also check out:
Image - Bill Callahans ((smog)) recent album

and: Image - The Nationals first. Wonderful lyrics as well. example "do not tell me I've changed. You're just raising your standards! :D

Ah, after I waited for this CD to appear in store for two months, I realised that I will even save 3 pounds (30 kunas) if I order it from Amazon UK. It arrived yesterday, and I like it very much:-) Only, when will they realise that people don't wanna to look at ten pages of fancy photograhs in the booklet, but they wanna READ THE LYRICS. (At least they could photograph her more... )

The mentioned track Deus Ibi Est is available for free download here.

Ballad of the Broken Seas is not bad. "The Rambling Man" is class.

As for The National, kleinschmidt, I vote their Alligator last year's best release.

Just realised that Isobel Campbell released new CD in October - even her official site doesn't have the news! (Very strange)

It's titled Milkwhite Sheets:

There's no any news, mp3, nothing. Even the art cover is very hand to find.
