Tom, nothing is happening that has never happened before. the world is in crisis because some have 'more than any man needs, and some don't have anything at all' (Reed).

1951. was just after the WWII which happened for more or less the same reasons - if a country wants to be rich, because of binary nature of richness, it must keep other countries poor. if a country wants to be powerful, it must oppress other countries. if a country wants to be free --- well, you know what it must do...

and if country wants to break out of it's bad circumstances, it must bring bad circumstances onto another.

we're just entering another world war. no doubt about that. it may be more subtle than the last, but it's starting to happen none the less, and every war brings crises, sadness, poverty, fear and eventually - a promise that we'll never let ourselves be fooled into another war again.

you should know that better than most - you lived through one war.

So, you firmly believe this will end in WW3? I agree we have entered into new permanent "cold war", instead of reds we have "against terrorism", as much it's imaginary.

hmmm... cold war can exist only if there are at least two interest sides that can destroy each other (they must be at least of similar strength). Sartre did call terrorism 'atom bomb of the underdog', but as long as the US CAN actualy bomb whoever they want and suffer far less damage (millions killed as a revenge for thousands)... i don't know.

we'll see. as long as we're close enough to escape to Bosnian mountains where nobody lives for miles around, we'll be more or less OK

Things are not worst. Only we are more informed. Not only are we more informed, but they spread only bad news, mostly. So the situation is not as bad as this. The good side of all this information is the new planetary counciousness it can bring. It can. It is not win in advance, though.

Einstein said that WWIII will be made with rocks and sticks.

For a 'cheap flick' that was a very powerful ending. Most of us who were old enough to 'get it', I think, saw it coming. I wonder? Will we see it coming? Is it here? WWWlll - rocks and sticks. I like the connection you made, Tchoco. Let's let ~greg off the hook this time, this pic says it all.

I wanna firmly believe that you're right, Tchoco, that all this will lead into new Solidarityx at world level before we all explode. - Speaking of oil, City of Zagreb just decided that it's final time to activate old, "futuristic" plan of building three ecological electric power-plant on the city river (we have 1 km of lawn on both side of the river thru the city: the defensive sidenabds made after catastrophous flood in 1960s). They said: it's the time, the oil is at the end and already to expensive. So, it's official. People already are driving to job in by four of them in one car, not each one in his/hers own car.

Jurica, that's the point: the war against terrorism is against fictional, imaginary Other. All you have are ocassional, probably unconnected attacks, and regular videotape from Bin Laden sent to CNN... Einsten was right, I don't think there's nuclear danger anymore. This is much worst: constant fear and threats (1000 people died yesterday in stampedo because they heard there's suicide bomber among them?! Jesus.), US going against all institutions of democracy and free country they used to incarnate, unwilling to take UN declarations or Kyoto agreement...

Tchoco, I like the episode of the Simpsons in which Homer realises what the last scene of Planet of the Apes means.

It is not done yet. I guess we will have to learn (well the majority) how to broke prejudice before, as we learn how to broke atoms.

It is not done yet. Hard prejudices are everywhere, much people pamper them in regard of others and themselves. First, one would has to make a difference between what is said, and how and who said it to extract the sense and the non sense. Second, personnality should be more stronger in order that the ego could be calm enough to allow a person to be aware of what is really happening (and not taking its projection for reality). When you think about the choice of being free or to stay the prisoner of prejudices, it shed a certain light on the word "freedom". It is more work than the hippies would have liked, but...

And more. Find by yourselves, now.

Most people think that our 'civilization' will end in the corruption, the decay, the pleasures of life that gave immediate satisfaction to compensate for abandoned grandeur of humanity, the majority acting like vampires which suck everything and everybody to death while thinking they are the end of the world, very chic people, if not better then the other s*ckers (hehe), like it happened to the Roman Empire for example.

I repeat, I hope from the bottom of my heart that it will not ends like this.

The Simpson are such patronizing (wink, they are but i love them, you guess). I have to take a break sometimes to move my... heart. And I'm not the only one.
