Hi Margaret,

Thank you for pointing that out. You are indeed correct. I wouldn't have thought Bolan had been dead for 30 years! He must have been a casualty of the 'disco era'. I think the one I'm thinking of is Gary Glitter. He was of the same era and had a similar 'style' I think. Definitely Gary Glitter. We still hear him at hockey games. Along with Queen's We are the Champions - however, for the home team, it's more of a pep talk than a declaration of victory.

Thanks for the list. I appreciate hearing of the less 'commercial' myself. Of course, there are many artists that I will never tire of, but there truly is an amazing number of amazingly talented people out there that we never hear about! Amazing.

The Mountain Goats you say? I've learned to never judge a band by their moniker! I'll definitely check it out. Amazon is good for the listen clips.

yes, linda, it was gary glitter. indeed, bolan died in '77, one month exactly after elvis. sad day in music. it's creepy, there is a song on his last album, "dandy in the underworld" and i am blanking on the title now, but he says "summer is heaven in '77," and he died after that summer.

Do you have any idea how he died? Maybe he intentionally checked out - thereby referring (in song) to his date of departure.

I've noticed, over the years, that there are numerous, similar coincidences like the one you mentioned. Songs prophesizing their deaths. But, I suppose, one can read a lot of things into a song once we know the outcome. Still, you're right, it is kind of creepy.

I've found that a lot of LCs songs are of a 'prophetic' nature. That line about "first we take Manhattan" always bothers me now, when I hear it. In hindsight, many things seem pre-ordained, but we'll call it coincidence until we know for sure.

y'know, linda, i forget how bolan actually died. i mean, he wasn't terribly old. but i don't think it had anything to do with drugs or alcohol. it's a shame, too. makes me wonder what kind of music he would have done in the 80s. sooo many big and popular artists from the 60s and/or 70s suddenly began using the synthesizer. i mean, you don't have to look very far, even leonard did it. but i think he would have made some of the best music with a synthesizer. in fact, he began using it somewhat on his last album, which came out in '77, right before he died. anyway...

Yes, I suppose even R & R, with its offshoots, has to evolve in its own way. And if that should include synth., so be it. Bolan wasn't really my kind of thing, but I do think there is a lot of talent that tends to get buried beneath the 'let's get rich quick' way of thinking. The synth is only the beginning of the chain, I think. Next it will be the, hmm, the .. tuba.

Ah yes. Vancouver and LA in the final round a few years back. Hey, hey good-bye...Vancouver, of course going 7 games with the Rangers. Almost got 'er!
