Annaedith....this discussion prompted me to pick up The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins which had been collecting dust on my shelf for awhile. I will write more when I have something substantial to say :).

Hi Annaedith.....I've been meaning to reply to this for awhile but thought I'd wait till I made some progress with the book. Well....I've made some progress - although only about 60 pages - but the book is fascinating. I would very strongly recommend it....the ideas on natural selection and mutation etc etc are demonstrated lucidly with computer programs that create butterflies out of simple geometrical lines that evolve according to the rules of natural selection. He calls them biomorphs.
After I finish with this I plan to start his most recent book...."The Ancestor's Tales: A pilgrimage to the Dawn of Evolution".
Dawkins most famous book is an earlier one "The Selfish Gene".
