Oh, Brother.

It isn't the so-called "graphic" nature of the video I object to. It's the lack of wit...and the juxtaposition of the luminous A. Thomas with all that frat house silliness.

(I feel sorry for Leonard if the women who are making a secret place in their lives for him are those two bouncing idiots or others of their ilk.)

It seems to me that most women, of any age, prefer to be much more playful in bed than they like to admit in academic public debates. The solemn attitude some present towards this video, and song, tend to miss this fact. There seems to be an ambiguity between what women say (over and over again) that want from men, and the kind of men which they choose.

a man never got a woman back
(or forth, or up or down)
by begging on his knees

YdF,

To echo your opening sentiment, Oh, Brother.
and the juxtaposition of the luminous A. Thomas with all that frat house silliness.
Now, it's beginning to sound like a YdF lament for the 'luminous A. Thomas'.

I think Linmag's interpretation was probably accurate, but how do we know for sure what Leonard had in mind? Maybe, just maybe, the women that become naked 'in their different ways' are the kind of women represented by Anjani. IF that were the case, I would find that clever and 'witty'.

Well, lets to say that the bouncing girls are friends of Lorca Cohen, only they were there by chance and Leonard is not responsible for this obscenity  .

Sometimes I think that the Cohen's work, specially his two novels, and specially Beautiful Losers has another meaning different from the one that I have read. I think that there are people in this Leonard Cohen's forum so puritan who can't read a chapter.

Come on, please, Cohen is this. This is his offer, and it does not have to shame us, to see and talk.

Or, do you like more Frank Sinatra?

Hmm...I'd say i probably like Cohen and Sinatra equally so although for different reasons.
In fact couple of Sinatra's 50s concept albums (Only the Lonely and In the Wee Small Hours) sound remarkably like early Cohen albums.

PD,

What you don't know about women has obviously driven you insane.

Hi Kush,

You're kidding??!! My Dad is sending me Sinatra CDs steady since Sinatra died. He's getting all the old releases on CD. It's great. Yes, In the Wee Small Hours...I remember the (probably 78) from when I was a kid. The cover was something special.

Cohen, Sinatra, Woven Hand, Springsteen, Beethoven, Zydeco, Willie, Cash, Seeger, Seger, Piaf, Peyroux....you get the drift.

Frank would have capped his own knees before putting out such a sniggering video.

Dear YdF,

I think Frank Sinatra, if given the 'tools of the trade' available now, would have Eva Gardner doing a striptease if it helped him. After all, he did get Rita Hayworth to go about as far as they could for 'Pal Joey'. That is show biz. It's not obsence in any of its' forms (with the obvious exceptions) - we are all over 21. I think we can sift the wheat from the chafe. I just don't think this Because Of video is a big deal in any sense whatsoever.

Pardon me, but when did I ever suggest this piece of fluff was obscene? It's merely STUPID. What's Leonard aiming for...What's he turning into in his old age....the "intellectual's" Howard Stern? That's how DUMB the Bouncing Bimbettes are.

Well I just saw the video....its certainly interesting !! :) Kinda reminds me of Bob Dylan's Victoria Secret thingy...
And Mr C looks a little bit like Sean Connery I thought.

Linda....Remove Woven Hand & Beethoven....and I like evrything you have on that list plus a few more. Not that I dislike the above two...just havent gotten into it - actually I've never heard Woven Hand but I'm sure hearing a lot about them now. I dont much dig classical unless its opera.

The album 'In the Wee Small Hours' I think was made in the post-Ava breakup period and I read somewhere Sinatra's was pretty much heart- broken while making that record and 'Only the Lonely' shortly after that.

YdF,

I am so sorry. I truly do apologize. I have not quite got the habit of using those white quote strip things, and I saw the word obscenity up there, made an ass of myself by skimming over it and generally just thought that it was you.

However, I still don't think the video is all that much of a deal. In any sense. One little nothing much video? So what. Anjani looks nice.

Thanks.
See you
Linda.
