The Poetry Comp. is Fixed

Post by Critic2 »

I know that the General Election is a distraction, I know the weather is great, but the Comp, is, I'm afraid, fixed.

I thank all those who have asked about it but entries *must* be in by midnight Friday GMT.

That is an unfortunate turn of phrase for one so versed in precision. Unless of course you weren't trying to say the closing date is fixed instead.

the Comp, is, I'm afraid, fixed.
...entries *must* be in by midnight Friday GMT.

Yes indeedy, a dirty little fix indeed, -that,
- so that now, as you've set it up,
on Friday, people from all over the world
will be calling up London, or London up,
to see if it's not too late for them
to enter their one and only ever
laboriously lopped little lyric,
or tight and tidy idyll,
or cantankerous canto, or lazy elegy,
- not knowing the one thing which you
yourself perfectly well know -that
for over a month now London,
- and its Greenwich Observatory too,
- aren't even on Greenwich Mean Time,
but actually on British Summer Time,
-which reads an hour later than GMT.

So that while all the world's deceived
into thinking it's too late for them,
you'll be no doubt using that extra hour
to flood the metaphoric poetry coffers
with your own ersatz epics, epopoeias,
epos, odes, epodes, eclogues, pastorals,
bucolics, georgics, dithyrambuses,
anacreontics, sonnets, roundelays,rondeaus,
rondels, roundels, rondelets, triolets,
sestinas,virelays, ballades, centos,
ghazels, madrigals, monodies,
elegies, amoebaeums,
and palinodes.

Thus increasing the odds in your favor of winning
the laurel stash,
- not by means of any fine and poetic oddness,
- but through the shear mass of numbers
of all your stunningly prosaic little numbers!

You're in the wrong room counsellor,
if you think you can get away with such
an internationally-scaled scam like that here!
Not in this world here anyway you can't!
I have rung the bell on you! It's not only
you that's hammered!

The gavel is now hammered too!
-and down on you too,too!

A round of applause is heard from the peanut gallery....

Anyone with an ounce of sense would have been aware of BST!
Must everything have to be s-p-e-l-l-e-d o-u-t ?

Obviously, for posters such as ~greg.

Is that you, ~greg? Huh. I think we've met only once in a very different thread. This is very different. 8) Down here "in poetry", I mean. Well, see you all.

Is that the best you can do?

I already know more about YOU!

I know for example that you have read at least
one other of my posts here.

I won't tell you how I know that, though.

I will only say that it didn't involve tracing the post-headers,
-as I'm sure you think it had to have, in my case.

Anyway, that was sort of kind of you, I guess,- that you read one of my posts.
(Although of course you had to go and spoil it with a catty remark at the end.
-Like I said, I know you!)

Maybe someday I can say I read all of YOUR posts here, too!

First I will have to have read -ALL- the posts here.

Then I can say I read all -YOUR- posts here.

I won't tell you how I'll know that, then, though.
I will only say it wouldn't even have had to require tracing the post-headers!
Because I have more powerful methods then that now
- more powerful than you know! - or that I'll tell!

Your Mother's unavailable then?
- "Perth"

I asked everybody on the planet,
(except you, because you'd lie)
and they all said the same thing:
"Perth" isn't any real person's name.
It might be a city in W. Australia,
except that any city with nothing
better to do than post one-liners
to a LC exchange student Forum can't
be worth very much, and I think you
are worth more than that, because
you criticize the shit out of people.
Which is an uncomfortable and untidy
thing for them to have to go through
while it's happening but which should
leave them feeling better - or "purged"
- or "perthed", afterwards. I mean
I think that's what you are trying
to say - that you wish to be thought
of as "The Purger" - or "The Purge"
(modeled after "The Plague")
except that it comes out "The Perther"
or "Perth" - as there is reason to suspect
you do speak with a lisp.

Well, I did think that you were someone else,
but maybe I was wrong, because if you were
someone else then you would have known that,
especially on the old ng, several people used
to tack these sorts of 'clever' non sequitur quotes
on the ends of their posts, and they hardly ever
change them, and they used to drive me up a wall,
so that all the time I was posting there I never once
used one, which I thought was a clear and screaming
commentary on other people's use of them,
but nobody ever heard me scream. Not once.
So I come here and notice that that post of mine
was pretty labored trying to be funny and it
just wasn't, so I thought it as good a time as any
to make up a quote like that and tack it on to see
if anyone would notice how lame it was.
But you picking on it just made me think of all
those billions of tiny bugs in everybody's beds and rugs
which live off dead skin flakes and which are completely
harmless but which nobody likes anyway when
they have to think about them.

My mom's dead,
or she'd ask you what you mean.

That was true,
I had not read very many of anybody's posts here.

And I just assumed that 'Perth' was Michael,
- pretending to be dull.

However, I have now read some of your posts.

And although I think you do maintain a healthy negative
attitude, -which is always good (-although gilding the lily
in the present forum,) - and although I do think that
Michael is a rotten human being who should be immediately
electrocuted; - Nevertheless, what is quite clear, - and
the thing "it all means", - is that there is obviously
more intelligence and good humor in a single one of Michael's
fingernail clippings, -than you'll ever evidence over the course
of your entire life.

I therefore apologize to Michael.

bloody hell, Greg! Perth is not the worst troll we have ever had here but he is dull and pointless.

so thank you for realising that it would therefore be genetically impossible for me to be related to him.

and btw I did not tick the box for eletrocution, I chose being shagged to death.
