Field Commander Cohen.

Post by Andrew McGeever »

This live album, from 1979, contains some gems, one of which is "Lover, Lover, Lover". The elongated intro played by John Bilezikjian on oud sets the tone for a wonderful delivery by Leonard. I play this song whenever possible.
A further point: Leonard, in his musical career, has been attracted to and by excellent instrumentalists; vocal and otherwise.
They all play their role to perfection in this album, which seems to have been subsumed by T.N.S.
Here's to John Bilezikjian, wherever you are!!

I too love John's oud solos!!! He has a website at
http://www.dantzrecords.com
and has released several cassettes and CDs of his music;
however no Cohen songs.

Yes, Andrew....I'm glad to see you give credit where credit is due with John! I was pleasantly stunned the first time I heard him. Likewise, last night, I was listening to a CD of a concert at Raikyavik[sp?] and Perla's sultry blues solo during Leonard's intro of band members during the "I've Tried to Leave You" song is wonderful. Leonard's speaking and singing voices in concert always are of such pure gratitude. I love hearing it.

Leonard lived in Hydra for some time and the documentary followed him back there.

I can never hear DMttEoL without thinking of that documentary. Does anybody know if that version is available on disk anywhere? I wish somebody would produce a DVD of the 88 tour.

There is also an excellent oud backing by John(I believe) on Who by Fire on the Cohen Live album.

Yes, the song is available on audio disc, but on unoffical records only: on the bootleg CD "Last Of The Bohemians" (which is a copy of the soundtrack of Songs From The Life of LC BBC video documentary + Munich 79 TV show). The documentary has been also transferred on VCDr (video CDR) from VHS, but there's no DVD available yet :(
