Dear Heather has gone Gold in Poland, Norway, Canada,
Denmark, Ireland, and The Czech Republic.

We don't have a complete list of his other albums.

1968 - Songs of Leonard Cohen (certified GOLD in the U.S.A in 1989)
1975 - The Best of Leonard Cohen (certified GOLD in the U.S.A in 2000)

GOLD is 500,000 copies sold in the U.S.
PLATINUM is 1,000,000 copies sold in the U.S.

...but

GOLD is 50,000 copies sold in Canada
PLATINUM is 100,000 copies sold in Canada

...because there are less people up there.

Check where I got the info from:

http://www.riaa.com/gp/database/default.asp

http://www.riaa.com

Just type in Leonard Cohen and leave all the other fields blank to get full results.

That database lists only US gold/platinum discs. Many
(probably most) of his albums have gone gold in Canada
and numerous European countries (Poland and Norway
at the top of the list, I'd say).

Various Positions went gold in Germany in 1985 I think. I remember it was mentioned as curiosity in some biography because album wasn't issued in the US. Also I remember picture of unshaved Leonard receiving gold certificates in Germany.
I'd like to make full list of Leonard's chart positions, but there are only UK and USA available; others are only rumours by fans.
I listed UK & US positions at my site, and some gold albums I knew.

Some other I found:
Songs From a Room, gold in Canada

I'd say that More Best Of went gold in Germany, because it's re-released in Sony Germany Platinum Series (with Platinum Disc on cover, in carton-box) along with Best Of and I'm Your Man. (Or taht means they went platinum?)

I'm sure we had somewhere data for TNS (Canada, Poland, Norway?) but there are not listed anymore, I can't find them even on TNS site. We should preserve them for archives.

I found them at The Files of course, on TNS page:
More than million copies sold worldwide
Platinum in Canada, Norway, Poland
Gold in France, Spain, Denmark, Ireland, Switzerland, Hungary, Sweden...

In Croatia Gold is 10,000 and Platinum 15,000. I think there's even Diamond for 20,000 or so...

The Canadian Recording Industry Association Online (CRIA):

I'm Your Man - May 11 1989 GOLD 50,000
The Future - December 23 1992 GOLD 50,000
The Future - January 25 1993 PLATINUM 100,000
The Future - September 30 1993 DOUBLE PLATINUM 200,000
Ten New Songs - December 19, 2001 PLATINUM 100,000.

Also, in 1973 Melody Maker it says that Songs of Leonard Cohen went gold in UK after 5 years.

I have an email dated October 17, 2000 from Leonard's manager of that time, quoting a note from Sony: Leonard had sold more than 11 million albums. That was before he had released Ten New Songs, Field Commander, Essential, and Dear Heather. Also, several countries were not included (like Russia, German Dem Republic, Poland and probably all other countries behind the iron curtain, and a lot of countries in Asia).

So it's double or at least 20 millions, plus few millions of burned discs. Nice number.
