Yes, it's my fault, I don't “visit this place as frequently as possible” , I missed the initial post, so all I'm going to say here is genuinely off topic.

Suppose someone, not dar, expresses some feelings to us. And someone else, not LisaLCFan, reads it, empathizes, is moved and thanks for sharing it. At the same time that else, of course not LisaLCFan, perceives that someone has attacked owns beliefs or a painful decision that took one day or that have been expressed a faith with ridiculous dogmas...

“But I know what is wrong
And I know what is right
And I'd die for the truth
In my secret life”

it is necessary to show the disagreement.

“Well, I hope I see you
Out there on the corner”
“On the streets of Chicago” :D

Maybe that's why we don't come here to talk about our thoughts; especially we don't express opinions about Cohen's work, that should be the place.

LisaLCFan asked months ago if anyone had read “A Ballet of Lepers”, asked for “thoughts?”… nothing, except two interesting posts from a Wikipedia publisher, not an active member

(I agree that it is unpleasant in many moments, it is also very interesting, regardless who is the author).

The first song I consciously heard by Cohen was “You Know Who I Am”, at the beginning of my adolescence, the atmosphere, the beauty, the mystery, the pain captivated me, I needed to know what it said, with zero knowledge of the language, I tried to translate and understand it. Today I'm still working to understand it and, furthermore, I suspect that there are moments that I disagree, too.

In the words of the great Billy Connolly, “Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!”

 Zimmer
You're right, Geoffrey. It was definitely my fault for not being in the right place at the right time. And  on your Chicago conjecture.
It surprised me that Dar, of all people, judged.
I'm an introvert (though in writing it may not appear that I am... but I am, and it's exceedingly clear in person that I am).

Maybe I'd need to have read the initial post to understand how introvert/extrovert is relevant to the exchange that I missed.
I seriously enjoyed and appreciated Lisa's follow-up comprehensive commentary. She hit every possible note.
Dar!! I don't think I ever knew that you grew up on the streets of Chicago! Not that it would've surprised me... I'm just surprised that I didn't know!!
