Love thy neighbor?
With a knowing smile
They walked away
I shook my head
Moved on…
I can embrace, (I thought)
Any one from any religion
Until they claim
Aaaalllllll the others are wrong,
then
I can’t help but walk away
Shake my head
Move on
They are so bloody selfish
So ungenerous
So dangerous!
I shake my head
Seal my lips
Move on
I just walk away
Shake my head
Move on.
Mat James
Love thy neighbour?
Love thy neighbour?

Re: Love thy neighbour?
I guess some neighbours are harder to love than others.
I like the 'with a knowing smile' ... I can imagine wide patronizing smiles that let you know any 'discussion' is only going to go one direction.

Love this, i know just how you feel. Recently I saw a news story of innocent Christians being assaulted by Muslims at an Islamic culture festival. The muslim youth were quick to react with violence, but the fact that the "innocent Christians" came to the festival with their "burn in a lake of fire" signs, and with cameras to record it also disgusted me. The worst of organized religion on both sides. Anyway, I wrote this:
~
To festival you go
with signs
and your righteousness
to proclaim that they would
swim in a lake of fire
for their God.
To masturbate your ego,
you play at martyr
you brought a camera to
record your persecution
the truth is
you are getting your kicks
(as though this were any way
to spread the word
of Jesus.)
