Plug?

Post by Jack_Cade »

Are plugs for LC-inspired poetry allowed here, or is this a dismissable offence?

Excellent. Yes, this is one of those forums I tend to 'lurk' in - I like reading the threads...

Anyhow, third down on the right: 'I'll Show You Tyrants'
http://ukapress.com/modules.php?name=Co ... age&pid=27

You can read extracts from the book, obviously.

Very hard to find an audience for poetry these days, so excuse me for using the forum for advertisement, but if *anyone*s going to have an interest in this book, it'll likely be a Leonard Cohen fan.

My aim at the moment is to sell 400 copies, like LC did 'Let Us Compare Mythologies'. I'm 22 in less than a month, so the age is right too!

Thank you very much for your patience.

Well, I'm sufficiently confused. Under the link for "About the Author," we are advised that Jon Stone [the author] is deceased. Your name would appear to not be Jon Stone; however, if it is, you would appear to not be dead. And who is Mary Read? It is a full moon. It surely is ~ after asking that very question, I'm transported via link to someone appearing to be quite gothic. And that item in the hand ~ what is that!?! The house of mirrors is beginning to appear quite staid.

Yeees.... I should really have explained the concept here. Sorry.

Firstly, gothic looking guy is me. Item is samurai sword. Mary Read was the name of a famous female pirate.

The book is... let's see... a tribute to the dead poet genre. That is, I thought it would be fun to design it around the idea of me being an already dead and famous poet. It's myth-making - similar to how they promoted new kings in medieval England (or indeed, new Emperors in Rome,) and is based around a notion I had that what really sells a poet to me is the idea of the poet, rather than the poetry itself (I'm thinking of how, say, Rimbaud and Byron sell based on their legends).

I think Leonard is aware of this too - in fact, I got the idea from an article I read that mentioned, briefly, the difference between Cohen the man and Cohen the legend, and how Leonard effectively *used* his image as a sort of motif.
