Jennifer Warnes was in Victoria BC last night (Wed Sept 26, 2012). She played to a sold out audience at the Alix Goolden Performance Hall ( an old Metropolitan Church that is now part of the Victoria Conservatory of Music) -beautiful setting and great acoustics. At one point she said "Thank you for letting me borrow your man" and then did a beautiful rendition of "Bird on a Wire". She did 2 - 45 minute sets with a lead and bass guitar on each side. It was a very memorable evening. She has the voice of an angel.
After the show, she signed some posters, "Jenny sings Lenny" T-Shirts and some Famous Blue Rain Coat CDs. I spoke to her briefly and told her about the legendary Leonard Cohen concert in Victoria in 1993- Cohen's last stop on “The Future Tour”. People who attended that concert here in Victoria in 1993 never forgot it. It was an extraordinary evening. It was the last concert of the tour and it was approaching midnight and Leonard did not want to stop. The concert hall management had to turn the lights on to signal to the band to bring it to an end. After that 1993 concert, I came across Jennifer Warne’s "Famous Blue Raincoat" album. I told Jennifer that CD has been my favourite album of all time and now I am happy to have a new signed copy.
I have seen Leonard in 2008 (Victoria), 2009 (San Jose) and 2010 (Victoria) and now have tickets for 2012 in Vancouver. If time permits I hope to catch the Seattle concert as well.
Someday I hope to take part in one of the meet ups.
