Where, where are the posters this very night?

But some of the posters surf in the old internet cafe
They've risen from their slumbers and donned their negligees
but find they cannot post for they forgot to pay
I raise my voice against it all and hope they come to play

It's not too late to drop by and share a little love
There are so many many days to post us with a flood
of messages and greetings so that we can all be touched
that's all we ask for now - it's not that very much

Give me 80% - that's right!
I need to shed this frugal life
it's not cheap here,
there's only bread and water
Give me overall control
I'm running out of gas and coal
I'm starving for my tea
there's disorder!

The ceiling's cracked - I've sent a text
The water pours - 'til none is left
I'm stuffing up the hole
but still not sure
No one helps - I've made a call
the water's flowed into the hall
It's all a lot of bother
it is murder.

The water's froze, I'm sliding in all directions
You give nothing
Nothing is no good anymore
this freezing blizzard makes me so cold
now raise the threshold
for I must quickly earn
enough to pay for coal
When I said percent percent
80 is what I meant
When I said percent percent
80 is what I meant
When I said percent percent
80 is what I meant

You don't know me for I've thinned
no food, I haven't got a quid
I haven't a brew
things aren't very well
I'm short of rations- can only crawl
I hear your offer but heard them all
10% will not satisfy survival
I'm not your servant- you have been told
I say it clear, (it's freezing cold)
80%, no need to go
any further
I table my bid - I won't drop
so agree now, let's put a stop
to all this bother
it is murder

Phil - you say you will go to 15%. That's fine by me. You have your 15% and I'm happy with the 85% :)

I think there was one more round in it. I'd have said 'no deal' looking for a spanking :)

just working my way through stephen booth's books which are set in and around the county derbyshire when in book 5 of the series 'the dead place' i came across this shocking paragraph (above) ......litton mill itself lies just 18 miles north of matlock the ancestral home of the current needham family...i thought that as our group has close ties with the needhams of derbyshire i should publish this shocking story of greed and child exploitation ...i checked on wikipedia and i'm glad to read that ellis needham himself came to a bad end..........( below)

Litton Mill is a textile mill at Millers Dale, near Tideswell in Derbyshire.

The original 19th century mill became notorious during the Industrial Revolution for its unsavoury employment practices, luridly described by the commentators of the day, and the testimony of Robert Blincoe, a parish apprentice who had been indentured to work at the mill.

It was set up in 1782 by Ellis Needham and Thomas Frith, both farmers with small estates in the area. The mill was powered by the water of a small stream, using Richard Arkwright's water frame. It could be said that the company was doomed from the start. Needham, in particular, had sunk most of his assets into the venture. The valley was particularly isolated and transport for the raw material and finished goods were poor. Moreover they had difficulty in attracting a workforce.

The early spinners, such Arkwright and Strutt had been able to attract the families of weavers and framework knitters, so-called "free labour" meaning the employees were not indentured. Meanwhile Evans at Darley Abbey could draw on a pool of labour from the town of Derby. In contrast, the area around Litton was sparsely populated by farming people who were scornful of the new cotton industry.

By 1786 the, barely profitable, mill was put up for sale. There were no buyers and Needham and Frith struggled on. Needham's money had gone and he was farming on rented land, while Frith left the partnership in 1799.

The Poor Law Act of 1601 had, among its provisions "the putting out of children to be apprentices". An agreement was made between the churchwarden and an employer, by means of an indenture sworn before a Justice of the Peace that the latter would provide for and give employment and training for a pauper child. Often this worked for the benefit of the child but often it was seen by employers as a choice of cheap labour and a way for a parish to relieve itself of responsibility. In the absence of any local labour, this was the course taken by Needham and Frith.

In the early 19th century there was a general depression in the industry, and the workforce was reduced by a half. There was a serious fire and in 1811, the waterwheel broke and was out of action for a month. By 1815, Needham was bankrupt and had been given notice to quit. By 1828 he was a pauper. Frith fared somewhat better on his farm, and operating a small spinning mill near Tideswell.
