Leaving Love to the Lovers who Loved Me
There were times I knew words I had to say
But the words could never find a way
The lover’s all were special in my life
Never thought they'd turn away
Without them in my life
I was strong enough to get by each day
If only I could see through every lovers eyes
Did they ever love me?
If they did
I never found out why...
Each lover knew that love would leave someday
That love would walk right through the door
And each one wondered why they should even try
Each heart shared the tears that eyes would cry
Think I’ll leave love to the lovers who loved me
Even though they live still inside of me
Love is just a memory
To the lovers who once loved me
Now loving me
Is the last thing on their mind
Someone else their hearts will find
I’m just a memory
A memory they've left behind
If I ever made them cry
There’s no reason I can find
Only their eyes could see
If they were lonely by my side
Like fools they stood by me
I'll be strong and I'll get by
And I’ll always wonder why
Without the lovers in my life
I still can’t cry
I can taste each lovers tongue
I can see behind their eyes
I know a new love
Has just begun
Did they ever love me
I don’t know
If they ever found my love
After all they let it go…

Leaving love to the lovers who loved me
Love is leaving all the time
So even if they want my love
Why should we even try
Love is leaving all the time
And love is the last thing on each lovers mind
Until another love each lover finds
As each lover fades from view
Sad stained eyes no longer search for
Each memory left behind
Leaving love to lovers who loved me
I captured each in some future memory
Leaving love to the lovers who loved me
I loved them all before I let them go
Why they loved me
I’ll never know
Leaving Love
Leaving Love

Re: Leaving Love
Dear Phillipa, I am much moved by your epic poem and would like to answer your question why all the men you approach turn you down. Firstly, i think it might all be to do with your eccentric use of the apostrophe.
Look at this and weep
"The lover’s all were special in my life"
why, for pity's sake why, have you placed an apostrophe where it don't not belong?
Look at this and weep
"If only I could see through every lovers eyes"
why, for pity's sake have you not placed an apostrophe where the word is simply gagging for one?
and look at this and weep
"And love is the last thing on each lovers mind"
that might be because they are thinking about the missing apostrophe.
Did they ever love me?
my guess is almost certainly not.
I can taste each lovers tongue
where the fuck is the apostrophe?
Also don't you think it is really weird that you can taste each lover's tongue? Do you mean simultaneously? Thank goodness you don't seem to be able to see behind their eyes as well. You write in Line 7
"If only I could see through every lovers eyes" omitting the apostrophe but leaving a clear message that you don't yet have some freaky ocular talent.
Yet, wait! In Line 34
"I can see behind their eyes" in the space of a mere 27 lines you have discovered the skill! Well done, indeed.
This is not the only shocking revelation.
Let us consider the last verse.
"Leaving love to the lovers who loved me
I loved them all before I let them go
Why they loved me
I’ll never know"
It turns out they did love you after all! and it turns out you were the bitch doing the leaving not the other way around!
I certainly don't mean to in any way make criticism of this magnificent poem and I wish to single out a particular couplet for praise. You wrote
"After all they let it go…
aving.html "]
"aving" is of course and olde Englishe worde for "flying" and "html" is a common abbreviation for "having too many lovers". Yes, in some ways, Phillipa, you do have too many lovers and yet don't we all deserve to share your apostrophes, your no apostrophes, your passion, your poetry and, most of all, your leaving?
well done!
Geoffrey

This is one of the greatest and funniest crits I have ever seen. My imposter is brilliant!
Re: Leaving Love
Quite so. I agree. Is it really that difficult to understand the rules of the little apostrophe that wants so desperately to help? What makes a person wish to be a poet and yet not be bothered to learn how to use a simple apostrophe? If you do not know where or when to use it, your work is spoiled, and that's an unnecessary shame.fishfishquaileye wrote:Firstly, i think it might all be to do with your eccentric use of the apostrophe.
So don't give up. There are plenty of web-pages that teach correct usage. Just study and practice until you understand and master the rules. Then it will come automatically; you will not even have to think about it.
