Re: Tickets
I wouldn't be so sure...(if not by choice) Leonard seems to have made the transition from "voice of the counter-culture" to "darling of the idle rich"!

Re: Tickets
Sad, but arguably true John.

Re: Tickets
The constructive thing to say would be that this is how these websites operate. Inflate the prices until they are absurd and then lower them as the event approaches.

Don't start me off on that score, it's quite corrrect but so often deniedJohn Etherington wrote:I wouldn't be so sure...(if not by choice) Leonard seems to have made the transition from "voice of the counter-culture" to "darling of the idle rich"!

I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

Re: Tickets
I have been listening to Leonard since my student days and nights and have been a fan for many years. In 2008 I managed to secure tickets to the O2 to see him through the presale link on his fan website. These were not fantastic seats infact they were some distance away from the stage but we did not care we were happy to be in his company. That night is one of our most treasured memories it feels as if it was only yesterday he was beyond amazing. My great concern is that the privilege of having access to these pre-sale tickets will be taken away because of the actions of greedy touts. I know I would not have been able to secure tickets without having been able to access the presale site in 2008 and my fear is that I will not now have the pleasure of seeing him in 2012 if the presale link is not offered to genuine fans

Re: Tickets
Of course, there is still the problem of how one acquires the title of "genuine fan" (a term I personally detest). Is it determined by the number of times one quotes Leonard and makes youtube links on Facebook, or whether they have their own Leonard blog? Is it determined by how many concerts one can afford to go to in 2012? Is it determined by how many posts one has made on this Forum (if so, then my 1857 are but nothing against Lizzie's 23,131!)? There are also those long-term devotees whose lack of time spent on computers is probably proportionate to the degree of an actual life that they are having (though I guess they will have to make their presence known if they are to be counted when they choose the precious few). I shall leave readers to ponder these things!

Re: Tickets
John well said... I enjoy Leonard Cohen's music and I have been to quite a few of his concerts the first being in the 60s. I don't post much on the forum although I have been a member for a few years. Am I a so called 'fan' ?

Re: Tickets
I am impressed, which concert was it in the 1960's? I was of the belief that the first gig was at the Newport Folk Festival/New York Central Park in 1967. Then I believe came the short European tour in 1970 but I stand to be corrected on this.anneeshipley wrote:John well said... I think a L.C fan is simply someone who rather likes Cohen and his books/music, perhaps an aficionado might fit some people better?

Vicomte
We first saw him Leeds Union and on researching this it seems it was May 1970 although I was sure it was earlier as left Leeds for distant shores in oct.1970----memory not as good as it was and obviously not an aficionado otherwise I would know date, time, what I was wearing and what the weather was like!! Cant forget Isle of Wight in 1970 though!!!

Re: Tickets
Anne - it would be May 1970 as the Royal Albert Hall was May 10th. Then again, there is the theory that the Sixties began with the Profumo affair and ended with Ziggy Stardust!
