Bird On A Wire renditions

Post by YankovicGretzky »

My favorites are the Johnny Cash rendition and the Aaron Neville rendition. Have any of you heard the Aaron Neville version from 1989? It's upbeat.

Aaron Neville has a lovely voice. It is a beautiful cover. That being said, I think I still prefer to listen to the version by Johnny Cash. I love the deep voice thing.

The Neville Brothers version.... I dare to say: It's better than the original!
:P
Beautiful singing , exellent production , it has a kind of vibe and enegry that doesnt exsist in the original version.
I have always thought Cohen's songs could sound so much better if he had chosen better producers.

I just got the Johnny Cash box set "Unearthed". It is a collection of songs from the American sessions. Included is a live version of Bird on a Wire with an orchestra! Quite an interesting effect.

The Tim Hardin version of Bird On a Wire is my favorite. Better than the original, Neville Brothers... Can that happen, better than the original?

I like Willie Nelson's version because of his ability to hold the note:

"And if I have ever been unkiiiiiiind. . ."

Cash doesn't handle it as well, but I'm just grateful that he recorded it. I wish that all Willie and Johnny fans could get turned onto LC!

I much prefer Johnny Cash's version of Bird On A Wire compared to the Neville Brothers. For some reason, Johnny Cash makes the lyrics sound more real than them.

And Anne - I agree! Unearthed is great! :)

I happen to feel that there are few sounds as aggressively, overbearingly horrible as that of Aaron Neville's singing, and therefore I tend to feel that his cover of Bird On A Wire is quite gloriously awful. I'm at a loss to think of similar butcheries. It's certainly far, far worse than Bono's Hallelujah.

Take care

I love Willie Nelson's cover - always have. Johnny Cash really made it his own though. I'll bet there is a whole generation of people that think Cash wrote Bird...

I think Willie Nelson's version is great, I love it but I think Johnny Cash really made it his. I'll bet there is an entire generation of country fans who think Cash wrote Bird...

As for Bono's Hallelujah, I don't know why they even included it on Tower of Song - it stinks.
