New here... Wanted to mention one thing.

This latest album "Dear Heather" is awesome... So hello everyone.

My Story:

When I was 20 years old I watched a movie called "Pump up the Volume" and was awestruck at the soundtrack "If it be your will" and others. Now for some reason I forgot to write down the artist, guess who? I also forgot the name of the movie since it was on network TV and thus began my search.

Needless to say it took me two years before someone knew what movie I was talking about and then I had to order the flick, watch the credits and then start asking around (he wasn't in the credits)... it took another year before someone finally recognized the song I was talking about and thus began the journey...

So that is how I was introduced to Leonard Cohen's music, he has become my favorite artist of all time.

Being Manic Depressive myself I was laughing when I read his bio the other day, no wonder I like his music. Does that make me a cynic?

I don't think it makes you a cynic at all.

While reading the little known facts about Leonard Cohen, I was not surprised when I read that particular little known fact. I laughed too!

It's almost something that is extrasensory.

It must be the overwhelming sense of melocholy [sp] that has always attracted me to this music. Unlike some critics I do not find it sad, or depressing, but rather comforting in a odd sort of way.

I think undertow is my new favorite. This album is extraordinary. I wonder if fans of Cohen are interested in the works of Rimbaud?

Seems like a natural marriage.

That is very true, Tekkobra! It really isn't a laughing matter, but strangely amusing. They do manage to find one another.

I think most L.C fans will agree that his music is comforting. The meaning is so profound. I think other people find L.C's work depressing because they are not willing to explore and disect what Leonard's message is. There is always a message. Some people are afraid to go too deeply within themselves to find meaning.

hello there guys and gals, im a newbie from a distant island, attracted to cohen's music like a moth is to a flame. Leonard's poetry is healing, nourishing and works on various levels simultaneously. As someone else has remarked earlier it is predominantly melancholic, and the effect of the music is mesmerising.. overwhelming. You kinda run outta superlatives when attempting to describe music of such pristine quality.

I am seriously thinking about attending the Berlin thing in 2006, but I think I will have to get to know some of you before hand, hate to travel and not know a soul when I get there.
