Now now Elizabeth, don't encourage the dear girl to take up pole-dancing. This thread is taking a distinct worldly essence. Taking a poll would require removing one and then using it for her own nefarious exploits. (don't yer just luv english spellings) puns are quite good as well.lizzytysh wrote: ~ I have a feeling if a poll were to be taken, you'd be doing very well.

Aaargh, Byron... Now I am seriously considering the pole option... somewhere with the "I'll wear a mask for you" one, too. I had already decided this is going to be my changing year... maybe that will improve my prospects a bit?!

p.s. Might assist " rapprochement" between earlier members and more recent arrivals; having read the first few pages of this thread, that would seem desirable!TipperaryAnn wrote:It would be great if the longer established members who contributed to the discussion here would share their memories of the earlier concerts (The earlier concerts thread, on Leonard Cohen's music )
Like many others, probably, I had been listening to Leonard for years, but never saw him live until the recent tour, and I enjoy reading people's memories of those pre-2008 tours. So all reminiscence welcome!

Questions about facebook
Hi Guys,
Somebody mentioned that you could set up groups on your account so that basically you could have different levels of sharing with your friends … if I understood that right. Could somebody explain to me how? I understand the privacy settings but is it possible to have separate groups of people who see separate things, for example – I suspect that not everybody is as interested in what type of pretend cow I have in my pretend nursery.
Also second question – Events – so if it’s a private event nobody see’s your response - great, but say you want to respond to an invitation that’s not set for private is there a way to limit who would see that – maybe a way to make a list of friends who would not see your events or a way for the event to show as private on your calendar thing?
thanks,
cate

If you go into 'edit friends' (in the account tab) then you can create lists of friends, then you can either set a permanent rule for that list in the privacy settings, say if you don't want a certain group of people to see your wall posts for example, you can set that to happen, or if you want to do it on a post-by-post basis (like farmville or similar posts), under the post button when you make an individual posting there's a little padlock icon, click on that before you post and you can set who sees that particular post (you can do it by person's name or the list name if there's a group).
I'm not so sure about the events function as I don't really use that - I've had a quick look and as far as I can tell there is no way to limit that beyond public/private event, though I may be wrong having not used them much.

Re: The Forum and Facebook
I still enjoy the forum immensely
I enjoy Facebook as well; it is a nice balance of people discussing Leonard
I tried to add a couple of people from the forum to my facebook, but they either declined or did not answer.
In any case, both sites are wonderful and hopefully we keep the forum as it is the best place to really congregate

Good to see our friends "across the water" still using this forum to arrange concert meetups or simply let one another know who's going to hear Adam Cohen. There was no rendevous arranging here for his Irish concerts - probably happened on Facebook!

Re: The Forum and Facebook
One of the things I loved about this Forum when I discovered it a few years ago was how total strangers from different countries could use it to meet at an LC concert, not just people who already knew one another and had exchanged mobile numbers - who needs a forum for that? Now I must go off and watch the inauguration of our new INCLUSIVE, ALL- EMBRACING President!

Re: The Forum and Facebook
Did you go to one of Adams concerts Ann because there wasn't any meetup in Cork, can't speak for the others.
edit. I should add, I don't think meetups are to be expected, Barcelona and Sligo were from what I can remember the only two that I was at that that were, or had to be, specifically organised due to big numbers. Other than that it's pretty impossible to police informal get togethers of friends who've made their acquaintance through the forum. (anyone want to organise a Munster fan meetup I'd be up for it, would save the train fare to Dublin anyway!
)
Further edit! A screening of 'Bird on the Wire' or 'Isle of Wight' would be good fun if it could be worked out and people would turn up?! Sometime in the new year after the new album is released might be even better

Re: The Forum and Facebook
Was at Dublin - Cork might have been a better choice! Wasn't going to report, since I found it all quite sad - the performance, the short programme with a lot of Leonard based chat to pad it out, the amount of drinking, fuelled and encouraged from the stage, the "carry-on " of some of the audience. Younger Dublin friend with me said she " much preferred Leonard's concerts". Well, you did ask!

Still think a screening of 'songs from the road' or live in london or isle of wight or bird on a wire would be a good idea for a meetup...
