Suns of Arqa- Stranger Music

Post by maureen »

Hi All,
Don't think that anyone else has posted about this album, just recently released. My husband and I are big fans of this incredible group of musicians! From Manchester originally, we discovered them while living there! They have been together since about 1979, and play dub/world ??? music. Now they have released this album of almost all Leonard songs, like you have never heard them before, obviously fans! Here's a link for Goastore, where you can listen to samples, Amazon also have it for sale, but no sound clips http://www.goastore.ch/product_info.php ... ts_id=4306 , be interested to see what you all think. I've only listened to it once, and don't always recognise what they are playing. Oh also there is a dvd too included with cd, 12 different tracks from over the past few years. Enjoy!! Maureen

that's interesting, Maureen - am listening to the samples. I am reminded of Dance Me to the End of Love by Mistress Barbara http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsaxdFDAGik. The sort of thing you post here and then run away very fast!

This album is clearly a must-listen for all forum members, not least because - according to the review in the current (Aug) issue of The Wire magazine:

"As it turns out, Cohen's lyrics seem totally incidental, and old Leonard is swallowed up into the belly of the rhythm beast that was Muslimgauze; surely enough to generate unrestrained apoplexy in Cohen disciples." (!)

As a sometime fan of both Suns of Arqa and Muslimgauze, I'm really looking forward to receiving the CD. Thanks for the links, Maureen and Diane.
