Book your Hydra hotel NOW!!!

Post by jarkko »

Important notice to all who are coming to Hydra for our meetup on June 10-12:

It will be a good idea to book your room on Hydra as soon as possible,
because Monday 13th June is a holiday in Greece.
Hydra is expected to be very crowded for the long weekend starting
with Friday 10th, until Monday 13th!

Thanks to Demetris for the warning!!!

Hi,
After reading the above emails and speaking with Ken, I contacted various places on Hydra and got prompt replies from all of them.
They all had vacancies but not cheap.
The following are links that may help others.

Ken how much did you pay in Alkyonides?

I guess due to crisis the prices will go a bit
down this summer in Greece but certainly
not in Hydra during the Holly Spirit long weekend.

dem

....daylight robbery at 65 euros for a single

...their website quoted 60 euros but what can you do with it being the orthodox whit weekend
i had already received 3 replies before the alkyonides offer telling me they were fully booked so i reluctantly accepted their price
a couple of days later the sidra replied offering me a price of 53 euros but there are a few dodgy comments on tripadvisor about the sidar so i decided to stay with the alkyonides

...i notice that the hydrofoil timetables haven't yet been put up on the ferry sites
as i'm leaving either on the monday or tuesday for a ferry down south to schinoussa from piraeus i will because of the whit holiday have to book in advance for the hydrofoil back to piraeus

...i guess we have been lucky in the past missing this holiday weekend

Ken might kill me now... but Alkionides offered me both a 50 euros and a 65 euros version. Is it because I'm romanian?! (and the english are supposed to be more rich?) Or because I stayed there before? Or are they going to ask me to sleep in the cellar?! I am getting kind of worried at the moment...

Laura

PS: I was very careful not to tell them I am a romanian living in the UK, I admit...

Now why would I need that, Ken? I lived in Japan, remember? You don't scare me... ;-)
Of course, if the room didn't have a window, that might be a different matter...

I will be on the island from 2 May. Anyone who is having difficulty with accommodation is welcome to pm me, stating needs and budget, and I will check the situation on the ground for them. But note I will be on-line only two or three times a week then, so don't expect an immediate response.

How will the holiday on June 13 affect public transport? I am due to fly home from Athens on June 13 so will be looking to take a Dolphin from Hydra to Piraeus that morning, then to catch a bus to the airport. Will the FDs and buses be running on the holiday???? This is all getting a bit worrying.

Does anyone know the Botsis Guest House? It seems pretty highly rated but pretty cheap, and it's still available. I'm wondering why?

I'm thinking of changing from the Mistral to somewhere cheaper to offlay the cost of changing my BA flight.

Wendy i think it was in 2009 that I
helped our one and only Dolores
to rent a room at Votsis.

Votsis seemed a decent place to me.
Nothing special but pretty ok in general.
