I could not agree more. It was an odd article and only remotely related to the artist. I guess the pull of curiosity... sad, but why else am I myself following this thread (though I always check out news about Leonard Cohen's poetry, prose, music, philosophy, ...

When I think of leonard, I think of the deepest insight, ...an artform of our emotions.

Yes, that too, Leonard. It's that which has helped me cope with the multitude of situations I've encountered and dealt with in my life. Yet, even if I haven't, it's that depth that we learn from, as well.

Uh-oh.

Don't worry though...it's not serious...he's too young for me. ;-)

Hehehe... not serious, just thrilling enough to make you sing this little tune, and making me smile, Esther. :D What a beautiful name you have. More frequent than NEeMA, though.

I heard this morning that she is giving a show tonight.

"One part spoken word, one part world-folk, but poetic through and through: NEeMA’s songs, delivered in silky voice with a disarming fragility, bring to mind a certain Leonard Cohen sensibility—and Mr. Cohen collaborated in producing her new album, also illustrating the cover. Deeply inspired by her travels in Egypt and the Canadian north, she writes in English, French, Arabic and tlicho, crossing boundaries and integrating cultures at will. NEeMA makes her highly-anticipated return after last summer’s magnificent performance at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal."

She is very pretty on top of all that.

This is the first line of an article entitled 'Superstar spawn - Music lovers may have high hopes for the new Wainwright-Cohen baby. Yet can talent be bred?', by Tanya Gold on page 30 of today's Guardian (UK newspaper), Wed 23 Feb 2011. If I had more time I'd scan it. Though it's not that interesting.
Personally speaking, when I think about Leonard Cohen, the first thing I imagine is life. What about others...?
She imagines Death, just that ? Nothing petty can come out of this artist, this is to say. It is hard to think about death without thinking about life, isn't it? As for me, Cohen is directing toward life, definitively, wherever his starting points can be.

jarkko wrote:In many of the articles announcing the birth of Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen, Lorca Cohen is characterized as “the surrogate.” Of course, she is no such thing. She did not carry the child for someone else. Lorca Cohen is the mother of the baby and Rufus Wainwright is the father. The child will live with Lorca, and be brought up by her. Rufus and Lorca are good friends of long standing, and he will have ample opportunity to enjoy his daughter's company.
Yesterday, I saw in the free newspaper forcefully distributed everywhere a human being is breathing in the city, a short article about the birth of Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen making crystal clear about Lorca being the mother of the child in all the meanings of the word. Why it was clear to me from the start and not for everyone, I don't know. Maybe it is due to the flamboyant persona of the father and the extreme discretion of the mother in the media ?

From the (London) Evening Standard 25th February:

"The New daughter of Leonard's daughter Lorca Cohen and Rufus Wainwright (yes, he is gay - it's complicated)is blessed and cursed with a family history that will heap considerable pressure on her to record the greatest album of all time before she reaches her teens)"!

From me - In her birth chart, Lorca has a stellium of planets in Aquarius which shows that she will be open to all things new and experimental. She has Venus in Sagittarius in a tight square to Uranus, which suggests that she will be very much a "free spirit". Does anyone here know her time of birth?

I like both of those sets of thoughts, John and lightning.
What exactly is a stellium, John?

Thinking about it, it is probably because I come from this religion where the baby God had a virgin mother who was asked by an angel if was was willing to have God's baby before getting pregnant and, then, raised the child with this man called Joseph, not to mention that he was born between a donkey and a bull in a stable, with three wise kings around him, as well as an uncertain amount of sheeps and sheep keepers, that I am not puzzled at all by the conception, parents, etc. of Viva (Katerine Wainwright) Cohen.

E (with a big E) lisab e (with a little e) t, thinking about it also, you look a bit like NEema, a least the photos of the two of you look a bit alike. The Man must have a sort of destiny in is stellium, or something.

Hi Lizzy,

A stellium is a grouping of three or more planets in one sign of the zodiac. Lorca's baby has the Sun, Moon & Mars in conjunction in Aquarius, and also has Neptune & Chiron in Aquarius. Hence, there is a particularly strong emphasis on this sign. There was a New Moon at 18.31 hours Los Angeles time on 2nd February.

Ha. Thank you for the MEGA compliment, Tchoc... however, I met NEeMA in person in L.V. and only in my dreams could I be so gorgeous. She has an ancient beauty like a goddess. I felt fortunate to have been able to tell her in person that she has such an ancient kind of beauty. Wish I could remember if I included goddess. It's what I was thinking... but did it ever make it into words? Just don't know. She was so natural, engaging, and sweet, when she thanked me. I've been so glad to see that she is a woman of substance. Her beauty is striking and unique... still, I thank you for even thinking of such a comparison. Photos... what are y'gonna do  ;-) ?

Thank you for the explanation of stellium [I got 'grouping' of some sort, just from how you had used it, but still didn't fully have it... my former husband, of course, would be right there with you, expounding on all the implications of that].
