Songs for newer listeners

Post by TheOriginalF »

So. I'm introducing my girlfriend to the works of Leonard Cohen and I wanted to make her a mix CD of his best materials. Anyway I'd love some advice on what to put on a Cohen mix for a new listener. Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Depends what she's into, really, doesn't it?

Last Year's Man is my current fave!

You may have thought that this is the best place to get such advice, but it may in fact be the worst. You could get hundreds of peoples personal "best of" lists. You know the lady, you know Leonard, go with your instincts.
BUT....do consider, "Joan of Arc", "Chelsea hotel", "Traitor song", "Memories", "The captain", "I'm your man", "Light as a breeze", and under no circumstances miss "Alexandra leaving" or "A thousand kisses deep".

Yeah I wasn't sure what kind of response I would get but I thought I would give it a shot. I thought some people may have been in the same situation and made a mix or two of their own. But you're right it's probably just best to leave it up to her personal tastes. Thanks for the info though!

Joan of Arc is a must as is Who by Fire, Story of Issac, Partisan, Halejulah it is impossible to choose. Take some from the 60's add a dash of 70's mix with 80's a pinch of 90's and top it off with some '00's.
