Diane ( thankyou for the inspiration )
THERE AIN’T NO CURE ABOVE

I lay here for a long long time
I know this sun is real
It don’t matter how it all went wrong
This pain I start to feel
And I can’t believe that time’s
Gonna heal this burn I’m speaking of

There ain’t no cure
There ain’t no cure
From the sun above

I’m aching I can tell you
I can’t pretend I’m not
If you saw me naked
Compassion you’d be taught
I’ve got it like a habit
But I’ll never get enough

There ain’t no cure
There ain’t no cure
From the sun above

There ain't no cure above
There ain't no cure above

All the blazing heat that fills the sky
I think that I am going to cry
I lay here but I don’t know why
I just know I have to try
And tan my love

This blazing sun above
(Ah tell them angel )
Is something pure to love

I see it in the morning I see it burn my gut
I see it when I’m lying down I see it waking up
It burns my hands it burns my hair
My face and then my butt
And I call to you I call to you
I think I’ve had enough

There ain’t no cure
There ain’t no cure
From the sun above

I walked onto this empty beach
I had no place else to go
When the sweetest voice I ever heard
Whispered to my soul
You will always be forgiven
For lying in the sun
But be aware don't lie too long
For then it won’t be fun

There ain’t no cure
There ain’t no cure
From the sun above

I hope you don't mind sharing your birthday present Bernie !!

 Another brilliant adaptation :D . You never fail to make me laugh, in a good way, Yorkshire 8)

How I would love to have your remarkable, unique ability to make even one of Leonard's songs fit the occasion with some rhyming tweaking. Much less so many.

This is wonderful... a gift for Tinderella; and it oughta take the pain away for Diane, since laughter can do that.

Well done... and keep them coming :D . You amaze me every time 8) .

Hi fellow Barmouthians (and friends of Barmouthians)

I keep dipping in and out of this threeeeeeeeeead but haven't really said much.

Phil....I'm enjoying your contributions very much and look forward to each new take on a song. I bet there isn't a song you couldn't weave lyrically! :) Only the other day I was listening to Un Canadien Errant :D

And you're all looking forward to Krakow. I'm afraid I won't be there. I've yet to venture from these shores (although I did do a day trip to Ireland from Holyhead two years ago :) ) Sorry to let the side down but I will be busy at work ...for the very last time :D I retire in August!!!

I'm already planning what to do after August and in a way I've already started. I've started writing reviews/interviews/articles for a music magazine and have submitted my first interview and am awaiting to see it in black and white...the magazine should arrive through my letter box very soon. It's a subscription magazine so it's not on the shop shelves!
They've asked me to do an interview with an Irish folk duo called Tir na Nog ( http://www.myspace.com/tirnanogduo ) who I will be meeting in June at a festival. It's about 35 years ago when I last saw them in concert. I was the folk club secretary at college and I selfishly booked them but was too shy to chat to them. They're back in the UK for the first time in about 15 years. Dave (Davido) is a fellow fan and Bernadine knows them in Ireland.
I'll also be reviewing a group called Quintessence (now called Maha Dev's Quintessence http://www.myspace.com/cosmicsurfer2009 ). They were big in the early 70's and then disappeared off the scene until recently. They performed at the very first Glastonbury 40 years ago and have been invited back this year. It's not the original line up ..not many bands have original line ups! My brother is in the band :)
And there's a band in Sheffield called Dead Like Harry ( http://www.deadlikeharry.co.uk/ ). They're the band I've written the article about and I'm also going to write their biography.

And I want to sequel 'The Diamond's Mine'. I'll probably do that by writing it in the forum in rough and use it as my 'writing pad'.
I've also got some ideas on the maths front which I want to explore. So it looks like I'm going to keep myself very busy after August...it'll keep me out the way of Jeremy Kyle etc:)

On another matter...my back isn't good. That was the reason I didn't walk up Snowdon last year. Yes, I lied about the train. I was on it!!!! Soon after Barmouth I started the process of hospital consultant and physio etc and things gradually got better but a month ago I found myself back at square 1....actaully it feels like square -1 ... I now have to start all over again with the doc etc :( It's very frustrating but I'll try to be careful and also patient.

That's my update. I just wanted to add my tuppenny worth to this wonderful thread and to let you know that a fellow barmouthian hadn't dropped off the edge of the world.

Phil, you take the pain and make poetry out of it! You are the icing on the cake of this thread; the eggs on the toast.

All the very best with your new and exciting projects Pete! You once gave me a sample of Tir na Nog and I must dig it out. (I am reminded of the marvellous Van Morrison song of that name.) I shall check your links later. I hope you will also be progressing your own musical career. Also hope very much that you get some relief from your back problems. Really nice to read your update. You are one of the sweetest LC people.

It is satisfying that the Barmouth weekend is becoming legendary:-)

Hello good people - I am following these thread with interest and read about all the creative things placed here. Otherwise I am really busy with the most boring things that come with a curse called work. Nevertheless I have already taken action in preparing GAPA 2011. I will contact all Barmouthenians before Krakow via email. Meanwhile use this as a teaser:

HI all

Pete, thanks for your news. Good to hear from you. Really really sorry you will not be in Kracow with us. But you will be there in spirit for all of us and we will drink a pint or 2 to all our mountainsiders that do not make the trip.

Hope the backache eases up soon. So great you will be interviewing Leo and Sonny. Bet you have a great time with them and ask them the most interesting questions. Good luck with the sequel to Diamonds also... can't wait. The birthday video you made me was great, thanks again Pete.

Great vid there Henning of all your family obviously. Look forward to meeting them all on our German tour. Paula your video was cute too.

With the World Cup starting shortly too... Lots of men in shorts to look forward to :)

Ok then only in and starving... so the kitchen is calling me.

ciao for now Tinders

Pete so sad to hear that you won't be in Kracow . I am busy working on an alternative version of "un canadian errant" which I hoped you would perform at the open mick session ( in french of course ) . Unfortunately that now does not seem possible . Be sure and look after yourself with the back problem and Jean and I look forward to meeting you again in the not too distant future
Phil
ps I still can't get over the fact that I am a Barmouthian with all the advantages that come with that title . The chance to waffle on this thread without fear of ridicule is one and the opportunity to brag to friends that I have seen Elvis Presley in concert another .

Dear Bernadine
Can I point out to you that the wonderful game of soccer is not about men running around in shorts? It is much more than that. It is life itself. The struggle of man against man. The symmetries and patterns of formations that mirror the basic needs for survival and ultimate glory. The helixical representation of all that matters is akin to the molecular DNA structure that we all possess and which is ingrained in all humans to aid the celebration of all that is good with the game of soccer. It is this goodness that promotes eleven against eleven for the glory of gold and the glory of knowing that the human race appreciates all the fineries of those 90 minutes on the green turf where many complexities are offered to the world. The ingenuities behind pitting bravery, technique, tactics and formation against fellow countries is a marvel to behold. The offside law, the most talked about and misunderstood law of any ilk, is a complexity that can only be understood after many years of deep study and zen-like meditation
In one fell swoop you, Bernadine, has devalued this grand occasion by reducing it to 'lots of men in shorts to look forward to'. At least Phil has the decency (or indeceny depending on how short his shorts are) to wait until the world cup is over.
I trust you will sleep uneasily now that you realise how one flippant throwaway remark can have such world wide repercussions.

Pete
p.s. at least in Barmouth I only showed bare flesh below the knees :)

I would have so looked forward to singing your version of Un Canadien Errant. I would have also sung it with Polish subtitles and English sub-subtitles. But it's not to be.
Oh well!
Here's one I did recently...it's a rewording of Tacoma Trailer...............

Hope you liked it :)

Yeah, like laughter that made my cat who's grooming himself JUMP and jerk his head around simultaneously. Almost "Exorcist Revisited."

My cat-startling laugh happened at this point...

Pete ~ It sounds like you are heading into one seriously fulfilling retirement. WoW. What an agenda you have already and you haven't even gotten there!
