I realize Sligo is somewhat off the beaten path but probably 75% of the fans attending will be from either Ireland or the UK and perhaps somewhat familiar with the area. The remaining 25% of us are really pretty resourceful. This is not a tiny village on the Amazon, or the gorilla forests of Gambon.

Thank you for these words. They sum up my feelings exactly though I could not and have not put it so eloquently.
I spoke with Marie King McGovern of Bus Eireann today.
Bus Eireann will be operating a continuous shuttle bus service commencing at 2pm throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.
They will be picking up from major car-parks and various points in Sligo town.
This will not be a pre-pay service, passengers will pay at point of collection.
There will be a well posted Bus collection point following the Concert.
Marie has assured me that buses will run for as long as they are required and that no one will be left behind.
In answer to a question from her, I recommended to her that a fare of 10 euro return would be handy for many people.
Bus Eireann will be operating Buses to the Concerts from most major towns in Ireland.
Marie is liaising with Robbie Butler, traffic manager planner for POD.
For myself I think the best option for some may be a taxi !
I spoke to a dozen taxi-men and they tell me that
Taxi fare to and from Sligo Town to Lissadell is 20 euro...with 4 people sharing that is 5 euro per passenger.
Mini-buses will charge same rate.
There will be several designated Taxi ranks at the Concert area.
There should be no problem finding people willing to share this cost,
They expect that there will be plenty of extra taxis operating over that weekend.

Thanks carlowmike for transport info--sounds like should not be a problem getting to and from the concert.
As a postscript now the dust has settled, the time and effort you have put in with the best of intentions is appreciated even though in some aspects things got out of hand!!
Thank you so very much carlowmike for the new information regarding bus and taxi transportation! Very appreciated. 10 euro round trip is certainly worth it, and it's nice to know there will be continuous shuttles back and forth. The taxi sounds like a great alternative and I'm sure there will be many people wanting to share.
Thank you also for making the trek to Sligo! We truly appreciate your efforts on our behalf. Only a couple of months to go!!!
Many thanks for taking the trip to Sligo and posting this very useful transport information. Was hoping to make the trip myself but unfortunately it didn't work out.

It means so much to know that transport will be availabe at a reasonable cost.
I like the idea that no one will be left behind.
Looking forward to updates and details of other issues discussed at the Sligo meeting.

Dublin 22nd July 2009. Sligo 31st July and 1st August 2010.
I dreamed about you, baby
It was just the other night.
I have some colleagues travelling from the US for Sligo concerts.
Could someone tell me if there will be a outlet at Lisadell hiring binoculars
to punters ?.
We are to the rear of B section, vision aids may be necessary,
Phoenix, New York MSG, Las Vegas. To The Shores of Need
If it is any help there is usually a large screen or two that shows images of the stage, not sure about any other visual aids, sorry.

9 Weeks To Go.
As is the practice with other outdoor events and large venues the organisers hope that there will be a Booth dispensing Binoculars for hire on the grounds.
There will be two large screens on each side of the stage and I am told that there may be a large 4 dimensional screen as a back-drop to the stage .
In answer to a suggestion from Jeney :-
some business people in Sligo intend to erect a large banner in the town centre stating:
" Leonard Cohen , Welcome to Sligo"
I have suggested that they might erect another :
" Welcome to Members of The Leonard Cohen Forum".
Other issues raised by Forum Members for the " Coming Together For Sligo" meeting of last Wednesday will be dealt with via Email or PM to the individuals who Posted them.
News on collection points / times for Shuttle-Buses and advice on Taxi service to follow.

Hi CarlowMike
Great that banner is going to be erected! What did they think at the meeting about any of our other suggestions - e.g. planting a maple tree in Leonard's honour
real-alan, I may be responsible for the the "Bold lettering" because at the outset I recommended that enquiries etc. be placed in bold, the better to read the printouts at the meeting , (I hope this is not akin to "shouting" in Blocks in an Email ?) .
The tree-planting idea was enthusiastically received at the meeting , they see it as a way to commemorate the Leonard Cohen Event , with a suggestion from some of the Committee that Leonard himself be asked by the townspeople to plant it , (I doubt if this is a runner !!) then it was suggested that maybe a Member of the Leonard Cohen Forum could be asked ?.
(The Town Council may be planning something else !.)
If the Members of the Forum were involved there are a number of possibilities here, could be that two of the people travelling from Israel ( celebrating 53 years of marriage on the 30th July 2010) or Maarten or, I am aware of 3 "Special-Needs" teachers travelling from NYC, might do the honours ?.
If any Member has a suggestion I will pass it on to the Sligo committee.
The "deal" with the Taxis may be that some taxi cab-drivers just might increase their fares over that weekend, those that I spoke to were adamant that fares should remain at standard prices.
The present day fare to Lissadell from Sligo averages 18 or 19 euro from the town.
I was advised that Concert-goers should not be obliged to pay any more than 20 euro for a one-way fare.
This is where the figure of 5 euro per passenger for a group of 4 should be acceptable.
All the other issues raised at the meeting have been addressed via Email to those involved.
I did notice numerous private car parks in Sligo advertising all-day parking for 3 euro but I guess they will increase charges over the weekend.
In fact I was made an offer by one owner to hire a whole car park facility for the weekend and charge what I like but I will be too engaged -- just there for the Concert -- to become involved and make a "quick euro".
I am aware that all the Members are attending this Concert with a sense of committment and enjoyment, the suggestions Posted here are just ideas ( not mine !) floating about and need not be considered or acted on., carlowmike .
