tittles
tittles
just for fun … one of those 10 minute things last night but then I kept fiddling with it trying to coax out a rhythm
from a Harry S comment in another thread in regards to the misspelling of the word titles,
btw tittles -I've discovered that tittles are the little dots over letters like i & j

The queen of burlesque,
a wonderful girl
was directionally challenged
her head was a swill.
Her tassels could spin,
her tassels could whirl,
leaving her admirers
eyes all a blur
but,
when the chorus line formed
she tended to stray.
Missed stepped lefts
had her going the wrong way
until a fine day
when an idea came to light.
She titled her titties
one Left and two Right.
So now when she wants
to step the correct way,
she need only peek down
to see the directions displayed.

Her lefts and her rights
just never went right
until one day
an idea finally came
she titled her titties
one Left and two Right.

Re: tittles
I hope Ms. Lavender didn't tattoo the tittles Cate; that might trigger another furor on the poetry forum...
There's a great tittle line in An Officer and a Gentleman; Richard Gere and his friend have just laid eyes on Deborah Winger and her friend, and Richard's friend observes: 'I'll take the one with the bodacious taa-taas'.
la-la-la-la-la, Springtime!
I've recently fallen for italics (move over ellipses...) since reading John Irving's Last Night in Twisted River, which makes much use of italics...

Re: tittles
.. I feel much edified now knowing the true meaning of "tittles," when here I thought they surely must be itsy bitsy titties (!).. (I prefer the latter, although those cute dots over the j and i are rather suggestive as well.. to a certain kind of mind, I mean.. and probably only on this particular thread)..
Cate, I just had to add here that there is that lovely Burlesque routine by Dita Von Teese (one of my many colorful alters), for which people can find a link a ways down on page 18 of Georges & Violet's infamous "Colonial Suicide" thread.. Ditta's "tittles" (though not at all itsy bitsy) match exactly your whirling description (or rather their tassels do).. though your "twilling" methinks, is rather like 'tittles' is to 'titties'.. (as mefears 'tis more to do with fabric than fanciful [sexual] fabrication).. (though me couldsts be wrongestst..eth).. (I'm still struggling with my proper Elizabethan usage, mefearst..sts)..
I.F.. I'm intrigued by your new romance with italics.. and simply must have a look at the book that so seduced you.. (I've always had such an attraction myself, you see.. but as with every such device, a writer so besotted can't help but worry she may unwittingly overdo).. (of course, that probably goes for untittlingly whirling one's tasseled titties too)..
oh, I've just realized that I myself have a little tittle.. somewhere in the middle in my own tittle-title..
v i o l e t (little).. xxx
.. (my new title, inspired I think by Stuart Little, or Stuart Smalley.. not sure which)..
.. (or should that be v i o l e t (little-tittle).. or.. v i o l e t (little-tittle-tattle).. (though I hate a snitch.. and would rather be thought of as possessing little tittles, rather than telling tall tattles).. (someone please help me to stop)..
.. (I can't believe I haven't used the word 'diddle' yet).. (oh, doctor do-diddle, please help me!!).. (at least I didn't say, please "diddle" me.. give me at least that much)..

Re: tittles
Some times it is easy
To know right from wrong
But is a little less teasy
Than telling left from right
I do not tattoo
To accomplish this battle
I simply write in the air

ahhhh!!! I can't believe I forgot about the new book - not so new book now!!!! I know what I'll be reading on the weekend!imaginary friend wrote:I've recently fallen for italics (move over ellipses...) since reading John Irving's Last Night in Twisted River, which makes much use of italics...
it's hard to imagine Richard Gere saying bodacious

Violet - Dita Von Teese, yes it was you that showed that clip.
I couldn't remember where I first saw her (she has a line of stalkings - well I guess they're not actually her stalkings, just stalkings named after her) I tried to get James to go to a burlesque show last night because I've never been to one and there was one playing downtown and my Mom is here available for babysitting. Apparently it's quite fun and funny - he's such an old man (not really - he just thinks so)
ohh yes tittles - they do look a little 'suggestive' don't they ... must be 'Springtime - lalala'

Re: tittles
.. that's funny, I squeeze my right hand..
Cate.. methinks you mean "stockings"? but "stalkings" conjure a lot more.. and I'm sure our Dita had to deal with a lot of those..
.. when you say "he".. are you referring to "James"?.. or this burlesque person?.. if the latter, I guess it's hard to find good ol' fashioned burlesque these days.. I mean, I have a feeling women are doing it far less than in the past, though I've not done a burlesque survey as yet.. (on my To Do list, as of right this second).. oh, and Dita adds the ballet slippers.. such a nice touch, I think..
.. oh.. what nice tittles you have..

Re: tittles
I have three (imaginary friend) though I should probably keep quiet about that.
Hey Cate, it wasn't Richard who said 'bodacious', it was his friend (he was southern or midwestern, and forgettable, I guess, I don't remember his name in real life or the movie...)
Poor James is probably tired because he did all the driving on the holiday. My baby sister's name is also Catherine and her husband's name is also James. Our Mom adored that James, she always inferred that Cathy didn't take good enough care of him. She said 'Poor James' so often that his nickname became Poor James

Re: tittles
not by mine dear Shaz - I'm just flirting with V - suggesting she has nice tittles (I suspect)I'm drowning in intellectual supremacy
Sometimes there is romance here -you should check out Violet and Georges Colonial Suicide thread.
Imaginary - you lucky lady with 3 - I have none in my first name and only one in my last

ohhh Richard didn't say it - I should have known.

Re: tittles
.. I believe there could be a category of poems, such as:
... piddling poems of diddling tittles.. (or what-have-you)..
for example:
I.F. was possessed of three tittles,
with the one, right in the middle,
in Latin it would be titulus,
though one tittle seems pretty ridiculous.
