Struggle

Post by Boss »

Avanza courses through my circulatory system
In a bold attempt to hoodwink depression
Experts infer it is ‘biochemical’
Van Morrison sings out ‘melancholia’
I know it’s just truth looking in
Each of us granted one moment
In a place where religion’s unmasked

We labour in over zealous logic
Mother and father’s prohibitions
Attention gathering games
And this loving, this sweet loving
To undress our mortal constraints
To find a portion of release
To accommodate God

I sip my tea from The Future cup
It cost me $20 at the printer’s shop
Hummingbird, blue heart, the handcuffs
Leonard’s pitch for this half sunk world
Of wretched materialism
Hungry brown belly
A checkmated saviour

I stare into my prognosis
The light is bad
And she is gone
It’s the simple things now
A cockroach in the hall
Eating, television, the sun
And it is hope
'In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer' - Albert Camus

Boss If Avanza comes in a bottle I raise my glass to you
Great work
Maybe it is the days when we idle ,when nothing appears to be happening which provide us (when no one is looking 8) )with all that is memorable .And on that note maybe I will raise my glass to all that empties 'It ' out to bring me back to Hope

lonndubh,

For 12 years now most of my time has been 'when nothing appears to be happening'. I've had
time to scrutinize and dissect the very fabric of my soul. I call it a 'pause'. How I wish to press
the 'play' button, just fuckin' get on with it.

Many years ago when I started getting these downers I asked a woman about the pain. She said
there is something instilled in Humanity that has to be heard. She said it was 'hope'. I've clung to
that through many a dark moment - it always gets me through.

Unfortunately, Avanza comes in the form of a pill. I had a Victoria Bitter last night watching Carols
by Candlelight and I thought of your words. I said, "Cheers." Tonight over sabbath candles I will crack
open a Melbourne Bitter and I will say, "Lechayim," and I will thank you.

In peace,
Boss

There is a place
over there
near the apricot tree
a place of rest
where women and men
make out
where bombs don’t fall
and every night
is sacred.
Where rituals fill aches
and death is not
shunned
where magpies warble
a fearless mantra
and children drink
hot soup
on the grass.

And this place is here
before tomorrow

Beautiful piece Boss
That lovely light between the long night and the day
The music playing behind the door of despair .
How I wish to press
the 'play' button, just fuckin' get on with it.
and little did he know that he was getting on with it all along
and Hope herself has raised her glass to you :) :)

This sounds like a beautiful place Adam.
On August 31, 13,699,999,984, at the Isle of Wight music festival Leonard Cohen told the 600,000 strong crowd that, “One of these days we’re gonna have this land for our own. We’re not strong enough yet; can’t fool yourselves.”

In the dying hours of 13,700,000,023, some would see a beautiful place to be further off than ever. I’m telling you it is not; we can ‘have this land for our own’. We are strong enough. We have the range and the machinery for change. But we have to clear a few hurdles and this we shall do.

While many of us have a spiritual thirst, it seems we are still splintered into opposing encampments. We do not see what the falcon sees. Barred from each other’s story we become suspicious – at best we feign friendship, at worst we become killers. It is fear that keeps us apart. It has always been.

Our leaders of religion, commerce and politics are fearful of what they may lose. They surround themselves with machine men and machine guns and corrupt machine rhetoric. They do not know the scent of Spring or what Mozart was getting at. They only know of maintaining the status quo, of their money coming in. They pretend to love and obey God and then stab Him in the heart. They do not know the way Home – they take, they amass, they do not envisage a beautiful place. We cannot turn to them.

We can only turn to one another.

Together we will discard the heavy burdens oppressing Humanity - the misery of hunger and poverty, the pain that is disease, the hatred and greed which clog our streets and arteries. Together we will taste freedom and all of its delights. And together we will feed malnourished minds from Mumbai to Paris, from Wellington to Damascus, from Addis Ababa to Philadelphia. Tick, tick, tick. Where ya’ gonna hide when ‘The Great Event’ steams on in?

We need a glue, a wholesome nucleus, a framework and that can only come from our common Humanity. The fact we ache, the fact we exalt, the fact we laugh. We are one, all seven billion of us. Together under one sky, under one sun and moon - together in unison. Our spirituality and ritual must reflect this for us to have a chance. Our love must bend but not snap for we need to keep ourselves in check - we must stay strong for our children and for the fight. And we must know there is mystery written all over this vast Universe; mystery we may never understand but even so a mystery that wants to help. There is a ‘peace train’ and it is very much alive and on schedule.

PS. If I offended anyone with my ideas/writing, I can only repeat these lyrics from John Lennon’s song “Imagine” –

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as One

lonndubh, it was not so much Hope raising her glass to me; but rather it was me biting,
scratching and teasing her all the way until she caved in, until she broke down, until she
succumbed. Indeed, I raised my glass to her.

All the best for the new year,
Boss

So we chose the path of spirit, of openness and of conscious living; one that will bring us closer to the source and to wisdom. May we walk it well this coming year
Best wishes

Another good one Boss!

Thank You!

Thank you, Gullivor. Good to see you.

I agree Lonndubh, I hope we get closer to the source and to wisdom this year -–
only be aware, the path to them may be steep and dangerous. It may hurt.

Are you prepared?
Well you're going through the motions
And they can't hear a word you say
Well you're going through the motions
They don't want to hear a word you say

There's a great line in that song from Ray Lamontagne that says something like
"I've been to hell and back so many times you kinda bore me "

Some await the miracle
Others dont know where to start
Some say its a mystery
And advise
Against viewing
The soul from the outside
Or anticipating the outcome
Or asking Why
Saying
You must be Nothing
So
Life can make you
Something

Boss, I've been following this thread for several weeks now. I enjoyed the original poem and all the comments it has spawned.

L, I especially liked the High Hopes video, which I first looked at on New Year's Eve, that time for new beginnings.

TY all for your great comments.
