Not sure if he was telling the truth but I took the opportunity to say "That's my mom!"    and at the point there was so much chaos, the usher just gave up and everyone got in. It was pretty great. The usher learned an important lesson- LC fans are rabid - don't mess with us!!! I'm sure that usher is looking forward to the relative calm of Metallica next week at the HP.
     OUT LOUD LAUGHING at all that, Esther!! FUNNY STUFF!!! Good thinking, girl! Good on that 60 year old and her 'husband' for leading the way!

I think there was one more word in Diana's proclamation and she said, "OH YES YOU ARE!!!" She wasn't sure if she was going to be able to do it, as she's been wanting to at every concert, but knowing this was her last opportunity [well, for the time being, anyway], she garnered every bit of chutzpah she could find and did it 8) !

I thought I heard "Oh yes you are" but I didn't know who said it. Good for you Diana!

Need to compose myself to write out my feelings...I'm still on a high. Haven't watched any tv or read any books. Just listening to Leonard and looking at YouTubes and reading the Forum.

Esther got it right on my once-in-a-lifetime yelling out something!!! Just couldn't control myself...oh Leonard ;-) ! I think I mentioned this in the Vegas thread but San Jose just seemed so loose and fun and celebratory! I had anticipated tears and gloom because of the last concert forever, but as we discovered it was only a way-station on the way to the world! So there was happiness and fun and silliness....but those of us there will remember it forever!

Esther...LOVED your story about getting back into the arena! "That's my Mom"...perfect!

More later,
Diana

ps..I love all you guys SOOOO much!

[Well ;-) , I guess my mind fed my ears the "OH" ~ the contradictory [to Leonard's lyric saying that he's not] aspect that the "OH" leant to Diana's proclamation ;-) .]

Yes, the whole affair had a very fun and celebratory feeling to it. The band and Leonard all seemed very notably happy and relaxed. [Well, needless to say, the audience followed suit ;-) .]

Yes Lizzy...your ears were right...the "Oh" was indeed there.....what fun!

Will email you tomorrow but thought about you all that night...you must still be recovering. What a pleasure to sit next to you in San Jose! We've done a few concerts together now and it's been fun/fabulous/frustrating/futile/furious...and cold! San Jose was definitely the fun concert! But each one has been special beyond belief! I'm honored I've been able to share them with you!

Thank you to everyone who came and especially to those who helped organize.
Maarten's name tags were great as well.

The blouse throwing cabal was priceless.

If anyone got 1000 kisses on video I'd be extremely grateful for it. The last strophe was I believe completely new but I believe I heard other changes in the body of the poem as well.

There were lots of differences both lyrically and in the musical arrangements Friday night. It felt almost as if Leonard told the band to have a little extra fun that night.

I enjoyed meeting many of you as well and look forward to future opportunities to do so.
Hi,

Bridger posted a link to video of A Thousand Kisses Deep. I also noticed the new stanza at the end during the concert.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol7AJ7SUZXE

"So that's my story
I admit it's broken and bleak
but all the twisted pieces fit
a thousand kisses deep"

I thought I heard Leonard singing in French during the first stanza of The Partisan. Usually French appears only
in the second stanza. Anyone also notice that?

Lizzy,

Thank you for sharing the magic glowing wands as well as your magic glowing spirit. You made it possible to feel as one with such a very close and extraordinary group. That added even more to an evening I'll always treasure.

Best wishes,
Bob

Thank you for saying something so incredibly sweet, Bob. I was so happy to meet you :D ! I'm glad you were so near to all of us that I was able to share a wand with you :) . It all worked out so well 8) ! You're so right that it was an evening to treasure... from the first to the last.

Yes, Diana... for me, too, a pleasure and an honour. Somehow fitting that we're placed next to each other in Leonard's mosaic. Proximity in perpetuity ;-) ~ the Di[e] was cast.

Yes... here I sit at 10:01, about to sign off, for need of sleep. Not much of that the last few days and tomorrow is a 7 AM start time at work. Ah... back to everyday life. San Jose ~ what a magical time it all was. Really truly incredible in so many ways. Nowhere near enough time for me, but the time I had seemed to always be so well spent. I feel such warmth just thinking back.

I'm sure he is looking forward to see some regular, just a little noisy crowd, as opposed to Leonard fans, a bunch of the most neurotic and funny people around :D :D
I've been helped by local fans in Halifax/PEI and Dublin, and still remember weekly meetings in chat rooms ~10 years ago, it's amazing how well most of the fans fit a certain psychological profile, regardless of the nationality :D :D

are you referring to obsessive/compulsive/inchoaenate disorder (it's coded as 19.346a in the latest diagnostic manual, p. 237)?

I'm just an amateur, and my knowledge of psychology comes out of necessity, but just taking a short look at the crowd in the lounge and in first rows in San Jose (myself including of course 8) ) and reading the Forum, brings up a couple of common funny traits, it's possible some of them are classified in some manuals as some kind of disorder, the wordl would be insanely boring without them though.... :D :D

well, let's just say that anyone who spends any time with any of us realizes fairly quickly there is definitely something wrong!!

i have two quick explanations that i give my friends (who clearly think i need treatment right away):

1) LC sings that "Everybody wants a box of chocolates
and a long-stemmed rose
as everybody knows"

I point out that in the current state of the world/country, most of us aren't getting enuf chocolates and roses, so that for three hours of such guaranteed, I'm willing to go to a lot of time, trouble and expense

2) After raving about the concerts, I concede that they're not as good as sex, but point out that they last a lot longer!

Fully agreed on both explanations, I'm not sure however where the 'wrong' part belongs to currently: fans or rather rest of the world, I tend to think the latter.
Cohen fans are mostly generous, kind, selfless (and good looking, of course 8) ).
If more people would listen to Leonard's song, the world would be a better place, IMHO.

Hi Michael
Yes I noticed that too. In Las Vegas he sang the first stanza in English but in San Jose if I am remembering right
he sang in French right from the start.
There seemed to be a lot in French and it was superb, beautiful...to hear him sing at all and especially in French.

I have heard that French line in The Partisan before in concert,I think it might have been at The Beacon. But to me
it sounded like Kemo Sabe, what Tanto said to the Lone Ranger but of course I knew it wasn't that :D
