Emotions

Post by George.Wright »

Come back again tomorrow
and cross again that bridge of sorrow
the leaves of sadness are floating underneath
then you will understand the nature of grief
You think that you know sadness?
What's the difference with gladness?
Crocodile tears of disbelief
as time washes away the nature of the beast
and if you could just dissect your soul
become objective and not emotional
states egotistically driven by the mind
the truth here is so very hard to find
open up and become aware
of the understanding of that vacant stare
aware, but not visiting there
and you will lose despair
and if you look at Love and hate
emotions that really twist and tug at the hand of Fate
and cause pathways to lead right up to the gate
trapdoors that spring to Eternity
Nirvana, Hell or Purgatory

Georges~ I really like this poem. It has some great metaphors. And the rhyming is unusual, but in a good way.

I have struggled philosphically with the notion of 'detachment.' Emotion is human. How we deal with it defines us. If i am reading this correctly, you are speaking of the rift between being alive and not being alive, yes? A hindsight reflection of how emotion shaped us?

Regardless of my being slow to fully understand this poem, it has much to offer and ponder. thanks for sharing, L

Thanks laurie for your kind reply. I was alluding to how emotions shape us to the extent that we lose track of the vision. Of course, emotions are human, but some people get lost in the actual emotion. Sometimes the emotions are dangerous and can lead to your own death like a crime of passion ie love (Ruth Ellis was an example, thus the reference to the trapdoor). Detachment is one way of combating overpowering emotions. I do not mean like an automat, but to meditate. Grief is one of the hardest emotions to let go.......
I hope this explains my thinkings better.
