Leonard Cohen reading Democracy

Post by TheDharmaBlues »

Does anybody know where I can purchase a copy of Leoanard Cohen reading his Democracy poem? I have searched throughout the UK and I been unable to find it anywhere.

It was my first experience of Leonard Cohen back at university and I've been a fan of his ever since hearing it.

Apologies if this is a repost. I searched and found nothing similar.

Sorry, here's the old site (I guess the audio link still works):

http://www.worldofpoetry.org/usop/dream6.htm

You have here the shot from United States of Poetry documentary (Leonard and US flag behind him which turns into a bar code), lyrics and Audio link (RealPlayer). It was the official website of the United States of Poetry PBS TV series. Leonard appeared in the third episode, The American Dream, with the recitation of Democracy.

The CD above is the selected soundtrack.

OMG - his reading is positively intense! The background music is perfect for his recitation. The lighting sets such a beatnik coffeshop mood. I wish there were many, many more of his video readings - especially of this caliber. Thank you very much moineau for posting the link and bringing this thread to my attention!!

Best regards,

This clip is completely ruined! Probably due to its VHS source.

The new United States of Poetry DVD shows this clip is in full colour, and not so shaky.
