The Omnibus 'Songs from a Life' is wonderful. I saw it years ago and more recently watched all the sections on YouTube via a link on the forum. Those touching pictures of Leonard, Julie and Perla visiting his home in Hydra and him standing at the window from which he says he watched the bird on the wire and then wrote the song.
Would love to own a copy if the BBC ever re-release it on DVD.
I know: I have a VHS tape of it. The BBC might release it on DVD now.
Update: I'm a bit confused by the fact that the Radio Times says of
Songs from My Life,
'Portrait of Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard Cohen, originally recorded in 1973. Featuring interviews, archive film and live performances from London, Paris, Athens and New York.' The VHS tape I have is entitled
Songs from the Life of Leonard Cohen and the prog was broadcast and recorded, I believe, in 1988, at the time of the release of
I'm Your Man. Thought we might be talking about two different progs, but just looked at the length of the tape - 70 mins - and that's the length of the BBC4 prog tonight, so it's probably that one and I think the
Radio Times blurb is misleading.
