12.10 - Sounds of the sixties: the music of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen

This is in addition to the BBC2 'Live in London' on Thursday night 11th/12th June.

'Sounds of the Sixties' ends at 12.40 (30min).

Another prog.(Flight of the Conchords - 30min) is on after 'What LC did for me' (30min) and before 'Sounds of the 60s'.

According to description, has to be BBC documentary SONGS FROM THE LIFE OF LEONARD COHEN produced in 1988. It contains performances from Royal Albert Hall, June 1, 1988, and archive stuff taken from "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Leonard Cohen". I don't recall though did they use anything from Tony Palmer's 1974 movie "Bird on a Wire", which follows Cohen's 1972 tour (that could be the mentioned non-existing "1973 tour").

Wow, I thought it was about time they did a Cohen night considering they've done Dylan etc, fantastic. A night in front of the telly with a bottle of wine methinks I'm praying my landlord fixes my TV aerial in time, I currently have a picture full of snow and no digital channels Would be just my luck to miss this...

I guess that many of us "old-timers" have seen all this before, but it's great for newer fans. Also, it will presumably be available for a week on BBC i-Player, so we can all watch it at again at our leisure.

I'm looking forward to it already, even though I have to say that I am an old timer and will have probably seen the programmes before in some way or other.
I've been mentioning it to work colleagues who are well used to my addiction but still get the usual responses from some..... but others are more curious and may tune in.

If you have have missed the start and want to sky+ it, it starts in 8 minutes (12:50am) on BBC Wales, which is Channel 991 on my box.

Omnibus - Leonard Cohen - Songs from a Life will be on iPlayer, but not the other programmes on BBC4 on Friday. My TV prog calls it 'a night of suicidal joy' for Cohen devotees. LOL!

The Omnibus 'Songs from a Life' is wonderful. I saw it years ago and more recently watched all the sections on YouTube via a link on the forum. Those touching pictures of Leonard, Julie and Perla visiting his home in Hydra and him standing at the window from which he says he watched the bird on the wire and then wrote the song.

Would love to own a copy if the BBC ever re-release it on DVD.

A glitch has appeared on Sky, possibly digiboxes as well. When I click on the info button to show the Leonard Cohen programmes' content the summaries say 'Part of Neil Young Night'. GREMLINS!!! It is probably due to global warming - like everything else.
