How did Loenard pass me by

Post by welshjohn »

Kia ora everyone, my name is John i am Welsh but live in New Zealand...I am blessed.

I am 50 years of age and music is my life, I mean that with all my heart.

I am not ashamed to say that although I had known the name Leonard Cohen, I had never heard any of his music.

Suffice to say this has now changed, in fact this man has changed my life in a most amazing way. I am now addicted to his music. I am not ashamed to say I have found myself crying at some of his lyrics, he is pure genius.

I have both the CD and DVD of the 'Live in London' concert and his personality oozes through with each word he speaks, I just so wish I had heard of Leonard 30 odd years ago.

I guess this thread wuill soon be lost in the back pages, but I wanted this opportunity to make myself know as a true fan of this most amazing gentleman. The sorrow is I missed his concert in Auckland last year and as a result may never get to see him live.

Thank you for this opportunity to make my feelings known.

The sheep??

Good grief no

It was the neighbours to the east of Wales, with their narrow mindedness and self belief that they can insult any other nation and get away with it:) ....but hang on !! The sheep are better looking that English women:)

I am sure you too have broad shoulders.

Kia ora is an all embracing greeting that can mean hello, thank you, wonderful etc.

kia ora fro the welcome.

Ah the traditional english sport of Welsh baiting

Why was an orange squash named after a Maori greeting?

It is a shame you have moved so far you could have joined us for our Welsh walking weekend.

800 years of Welsh baiting and you still ain't caught one

My sport is getting old maps of the world and erasing all the red bit's, only a few more years and the empire will be England  no more no less, and the world will be as it should.

I will not venture into the Maori 'orange squash' debate as I have far too much respect for my Maori friends, their culture and language, but it does go a long way to explaining why they have a deep rooted hatred for 'mummy Engalnd'.

Welsh walking weekend!!!

What's wrong with the Lambeth Walk down the Old Kent Road whilst singing 'Bolied Beef and Carrots' and eating jellied eels....................have a banana!

I've been to see the All Blacks twice now and maybe one day we'll beat them!
This is the moment when Wales refused to move away after the Hakka ,which rattled the All blacks for about ten minutes, when they came back and slaughtered us!

That was a wonderful day, I had many Kiwi friends in my home for that game and they appreciated what Wales did. After all the HAKA is a Lemon flavoured drink in certain areas of Briton. Cultures who appreciate cultures become friends and allies. The ignorant usually ignored.

Leonard even in the short period of time I have listened to his music and read his poetry has changed my way of thinking, I prefer to embrace rather than bait anyone, now that ideal is stronger.

Porthmadoc, a wonderful town with wonderful people and wonderful pubs :D The Australia!! wonderful memories. The Cob, y train bach:), Cob records with all its bootleg albums in the 1970's a beautiful town in a beautiful counrty.

I am sure Mr Cohen would adore the place and inspire him :)

It's changed quite a bit now, like a lot of places in Wales & England, the pubs are struggling. The once buzzing Ship & Castle is now run down &closed. The Australia has changed hands often, is still open but only just, and unfortunately The Ship has closed.Spooners the Ffestiniog railway pub is doing ok.The tren bach has crossed over the harbour bridge (they've reopened the Beddgelert line) and will soon be running to Beddgelert again;then you can carry on to Caernarfon.
I'm glad to say though that my favourite shop Cob Records is still going strong.

They've finished the bridge now and will be opening fairly soon.It should have been this Easter but they are running late! Can you imagine the traffic chaos in the summer it's bad enough now.
Never mind,a good excuse for the by pass which is coming, spoiling other scenic and pleasant places with which to walk your dog.

This thread has brought back many happy memories, as I was conceived half way up a Welsh mountain, northeast of Ffestiniog, and remember slate-grey Portmadoc and Ffestiniog quite clearly (especially the Penguin Hotel). Tan-y-Bulch was my local station. I also remember being rather frightened by certain aspects of Port Meirion, though I loved playing on the stone ship.

It is also known as The Great Pretender as it looks like the Paramount Mountain in the films from certain angles.

Awesome stuff, a few more of us and we'll have a choir :D

Port Meirion is a wonderful place and sad as it may be I do have The Prisoner collection in my DVD cabinet.

Ffestiniog is a great place..if you are Welsh lol

I recall going with my now ex partner and my daughter on the train. Go to Ffestiniog and just got into the chippy as it was closing for a sit down lunch. We were followed extremely closely by an english family who were turned away.....the waitress came to our table uttering the words..."Blydi sais"!!
