Benicassim update

I bought my ticket to benicassim because I saw the date in http://www.leonardcohen.com, and the date is still there. If anyone has to pay something to me it should be LC...

Please, anyone could answer any of my previous questions?

If you look at the bottom of the webpage you're pointing at there, travisss, you'll notice it is a site maintained by Sony BMG.

Sony may be responsible for handling LC's music, but he is not responsible for them or how often they update their LC website.

Anyone who has visited Sony's LC website a few times over the years knows its always been shite and unreliable. By which I mean that from my own visits it is only updated (perhaps understandably) when Sony have some new LC (or, in the case of Anjani's record, LC-related) product to shift or shout about. That is, not that often. Roughly, once or twice a decade if you are lucky.

Which probably explains why Jarkko's is like manna from heaven.

Only you have come with speculations and interested theories that seem me as a revenge for FIB's suppression in AEG's calendar.

The FIB organization is selling tickets with Cohen as the first attraction.

Official post from FIB on their website reads as follows: -

I know that it is quite a concern, but all I can say at present is that Leonard Cohen is confirmed for this year's line-up, as we haven't received an official statement saying otherwise. As I said before, we will keep you informed as soon as the issue is definitely clarified.

Considering the conflicting information surrounding this, you would think that they would get on the telephone to LC's management to clarify the matter.

It does appear that they are stalling whilst they get a replacement.

Let's hope Benicassim is cancelled and a date is scheduled for a more appropriate venue. Benicassim is for drunk, amped up kids to punch their fists in the air to cool and trendy rock bands. It is a fantastic festival at achieving its goal, but it is 100% the wrong venue for LC. He would in all probability cause a riot between those there to see him, and wanting to hear the music and appreciate the nuances and subtleties of the lyrics, and those waiting to see Arctic Monkeys or Franz Ferdinand or whoever is playing this year. The two groups of people would not get along let's face it. Better that LC play a beautiful indoor arena, or, even better, follow in the footsteps of his fellow Canadia, Loreena McKennit and play at the Alhambra!!!!

Benicassim is no longer mentioned at Mr. Cohen's Sony BMG website.

FIB are still insisting he is booked in an announcement on their forum last week.

They say they have received no official cancellation notice from the tour management.

My guess is they are holding out the cancellation notice until they announce another act to cushion the backlash.

After solve logistic problems with the transport from Bennicassim to Nice,Bennicassim´s organizers confirm the presence of LC in Bennicassim on 20 July.

Good news it seems for those who have booked tickets to see Leonard in Benicàssim but Trankaman - please don't shoot the messenger. Jarkko does a great job for us but he can only report what he has been told.

I´m not shooting the messenger but Jarkko as admin of LC forum should be a little bit more careful with his words because his post saying "I have now 100 % confirmation from the tour management that Leonard's concert at the Benicassim Festival is definitely cancelled." has been published in a lot of websites around the world and has damaged the FIB image and pocket!

Either you are shooting the messenger or you are not. You can't say you are not and then proceed to fire away on all cylinders.

I expect when Jarkko published that statement it was a true and honest representation of the position as reported to him by someone "in the know" and who should have been reliable.

The fact that the position on Benicassim may have now come right against the odds does not make what he said false or misleading in the context of the moment.

From the fans perspective its certainly better to know an appearance is unlikely to happen or is in jeopardy in unqualified terms rather than be given qualified information ("this may or may not be happening depending upon etc"), as uncertainty leaves you having to hedge your bets.

Jarkko was coming under a lot of pressure to give definitive information at the time and that is what he tried to deliver.

Anyway, if Benicassim is now happening, as the latest info suggests, then I'm delighted for all of those who have taken a gamble and won out in the end.

I just want to clarify that I´m grateful Jarkko´s efforts to inform all of us but in my opinion he should be a little more careful because it is clear now that the cancellation was not 100% definitely cancelled

But according to your latest info the cancellation must be cancelled now and the initial confirmation is confirmed. Am I right ?
