Listening to Leonard, as I have daily for 35 years, I've noticed that perhaps LC has only (in my current count) 6 songs that do not include any lyrics from the song title in the song:
It wouldn't strike me as unusual to me, except that mostly every other LC song has the song title or a word from the title in a lyric of the song.........the ones that don't, that I can think of so far are:
() "One of us Cannot be Wrong"---
(2) "Winter Lady" (does allude to snow and cold, but seems song could be titled "travelling lady")
(3) "Memories"
(4) Ballad of the Absent Mare
(5) Story of Isaac
"One of Us Cannot be Wrong" is the one that "stands out" the most, as the other songs allude to themes that are clearly reflected in the song. Perhaps with "One of us..." or any of the others, listed above, LC had an earlier version that included the title lyric? Anybody know?
can anyone think of any others, or want to explore this as an exercise to pass the time, while we wait for the very soon & exciting "miracle to come" (the day LC concert comes to a city near to us.. (or we travel to) to get to one...

'Ballad of the absent Mare':
'Say a prayer for the cowboy, his mare's run away'- does include the word 'mare'-does this count?

You should be more careful how you word things.karen wrote:...

Specifically: "...or a word from the title in a lyric of the song...".
Because there is in fact a word in the title "One of Us Cannot be Wrong",
that occurs seven times in the lyrics -
It's true, however, that this was much more evident when the song still had its original title -I lit a thin green candle, to make you jealous of me.

I heard of a saint who had loved you,
He taught that the duty of lovers
he'd recently taken of you:

Thanks to everyone participating in my little exercise while we wait for the "great surprise" (the upcoming tour!!!
to answer some posts, which I appreciate everyone's input:::
Yes, Mare counts. so I take it off the list.!! thank you. My bad, I had spent more time recently listening instead of to the "source" (LC) on that song, I spent more time listening to two splendid covers of that song--- the amazing Perla Batalla's in her CD, Bird on the Wire (which you can order at CD baby) in which she keeps the original title of the song,(with Mare in it) but sings "horse," ---and the amazing Jennifer Warnes version (in her 20th anniversary edition of Famous Blue Raincoat which has "ballad of " as one of her four extra "previously unreleased" in the 20th anniversary edition--Warnes does title it "Ballad of the Runaway Horse" and sings "horse"--- So, my bad, yes LC sings "Mare" in Recent Songs....and as I mentioned in my first post, even though it was on the list, it had all the themes in it, whether sang as horse or mare, it's still the song "One of Us Cannot..." that is #1 on list of "let's talk about that one and try to figure it out.
Though I do appreciate Greg's pointing out all the "of's" in "One of Us.."
Very clever, but I'll keep it on my list despite the "of's"-- though enjoyed his proposed new title.
------------
I'd still like to have some sort of input/discussion on "one of us cannnot be wrong" title, as I always wondered about that song title, and I was reminded of that wondering when the posts about "the top three songs" for the upcoming tour (!!!!) often included that great song.

Re: hydriot's list::
Anthem
Minute Prologue
Here it Is
Villanelle for Our Time
all great additions to list, and yes to all, except "here it is"----though the lyrics don't "officially" say "here it is" --the actual song to my recollection does open w/ "here it is"--plus the song itself has LC singing "here is your...." many times in that the song, so I think "here it is" is not part of the "song title not appearing in lyric" ---as for sure "here is" is there---just my 2 cents on that. perhaps others want to weigh in?
thanks especially for Anthem--how could I have forgotten that? it's one of my all time favorites!!!
thanks for everyone's input!!
