Hi Godzilla ~
Arigato, konichi wa, kon bon wa [I think those may all be phonetic spellings
] is all I can remember right now from my time in Japan in 1965 [before you were born
]. You're on for hot dogs and Bud.....and, of course, Linda and Paula are welcome. Linda will no doubt pass on the Bud, whilst Paula may require many to get her here!
Meanwhile, the hot dogs and Bud are on me [well, not on me, I hope ~ came too close to that already
]!
Oh dear, have a snort? That has connotations here that I'm certain Linda didn't mean
. What was your idea of the English translation when you wrote it, Linda?
What d'ya think? Jazz Police for the track? And Boogie Street?
Heretic ~ ......and may Lance Armstrong win the Tour de France again
. If not, may he at least ride well and strong
!

Simply to clarify that, although I acknowledge that I may remain a tad oversensitive regarding the use of God Bless America, I remain glad for my addition to the phrase in Daytona. [Noting the turn of a head to my left, where my accompanier to the race sat, I sensed that he sensed what I said was non-negotiable, saying nothing neither time ~ and still spoke to me on the way home
.]
Along the same lines as what I said, I came across this quote that I suspect some others may have already seen at some point:
"The true civilization is where every man gives to every other every right that he claims for himself."
~ Robert Green Ingersoll, lawyer and orator (1833-1899)

While my preference would be Corona, with a slice of lime. The right time and place a bud will do fine. What gave you that idea I would pass Lizzytysh?
Actually I did know what "Chotto Ipai yarimasho" meant. What gave you the idea I wouldn't Lizzytysh? But that is the extent of my Japanese "I am not here to fool you." I will explain. I found the twisted bellybutton statement, on another thread, interesting enough to research it a little further and I learned a lot about doing business with the Japanese. "Have a snort" comes in handy in many ways.

Linda ~
If you favoured Dale, Jr., the Bud would do fine. Otherwise, Corona ~ except for there, as everything was in cans. Have never seen Corona in other than a bottle. Lime is the only way to go with them. Didn't presume you to drink, hence the "passing" comment. I'd rather err on the side of caution, as some strong Christians would be offended, if one were to suggest that they did.
I didn't think you thought the Japanese comment meant "snort" necessarily, but remained interested in your original intention and/or what it actually did mean. As what one writes/speaks in another language, does not necessarily line up with how another in that language translates it to be. In that it's the only thing you do know in Japanese, I wasn't too far off in thinking maybe you didn't know the exact meaning of this phrase. So, "Chotto Ipai yarimasho" means "Have a snort"?

Hi Lizzytysh,
Count me in on the races! I think it would be an extremely enjoyable event. Especially if Godzilla, Paula and LInda are there!
Your second description of the event was even better than your first! I am glad to hear that race fans are so congenial with each other and that there seem to be no hard feelings amongst the different fans. Oh, that the world's peoples could get along as well.

For whichever ones show up at NY 2004, we can race to the nearest bar and fulfill our pledge to have a drink at the races

Linda whats a Corona?
Lizzie I don't drink really I am almost teetotal! I might have a glass of something once in a blue moon but I get drunk on one glass and then I don't shut up I talk even more rubbish than I do normally.
Godzilla I didn't realise that is a real saying in your country "twisted bellybutton" it is very expressive. I like it

Paula, Corona is a beer imported from Mexico. It doesn't have as bitter a taste as some of our beer, for whatever reason.
"Heso Mageru", had a very interesting story about it. And if you twisted someones belly button in Japan you might want to remember "Chotto ipai yarimasho." Is that true today in Japan, Godzilla?

I typed "Heso Mageru" in Yahoo search and this web site came up as one place to look for info.

Godzilla most likely knows more, but I found this one interesting.
